Chattahoochee Bend State Park is a brand new state park located about an hour SW of Atlanta, near Newnan adjacent to the big bend in the Chattahoochee River. The park is in a remote area making it a quiet getaway from the bustle of Atlanta. The ranger/check-in station is a huge timber framed building with a large porch with paddle fans & rocking chairs. The lobby has a few camping supplies & souvenirs. The park has 3 separate camping areas. One for large RV's, one for medium/small RV's & walk-in tent sites & a 3rd with platforms for tents. There is also an Adirondack-style camping area for groups. All RV sites are water/electric only. A dump station is located near the entrance to the large RV sites. Camp roads are paved and big-rig friendly. Just watch the arrows painted on the roads in the sections for direction-flow, as the camp map we had was incorrect making us have to do a loop around our section to go down the road correctly positioned to back into our site. The RV campsites are amongst large pines & other native trees that have been well limbed-up & away from parking pad edges. New bushes, flowers & fresh mulch are between sites & will provide nice privacy once mature, although the sites are well spaced so you aren't too close to your neighbor anyway. The RV parking pads & patios are fine gravel (tracks in easily on shoes) & level, have picnic tables, fire rings & lantern hooks. The larger RV section has both back-in & pull-thru sites. The medium/small RV section has back-in sites. Walk-in tent sites, located in the loop with the medium/small RV sites, are tucked back in the pines with gravel pads, picnic tables, fire rings & lantern hooks. The platform tent sites, accessed by a meandering gravel path, are river-front, although the bank to get to the river from behind the sites seemed kind of steep & had a lot of brush. Given time, I'm sure pathways will be carved out but until then, you can access the river (for swimming/fishing/tubing/canoeing) from a launch ramp in the section near the pavilions. The bath/showerhouses were immaculate, light & well-ventilated. Although they did not contain very many stalls for the amount of sites in the campground. When the campground is full, it might be a bit of a wait at shower rush hour. For such a new park, they missed on the dump station placement though. It's located on the camp road spur that goes to the large RV section. Although easy to get in to, depending on where you're headed, it can be tricky to get out. If you're coming from the large RV section, dumping & going back for a longer stay at your campsite, you have to do a 3-point turn to get back on the camp road leading to that section. Or if you're coming in from/going back to the medium/small RV section, you'll probably have to do a loop through the large RV section to get to the camp road that leads back to your section. I realize the terrain at the park is hilly, but they should have put the dump station off the main camp road instead of off a spur. As with any state park there are miles of trails & one leads to a wood observation tower with a view of the river through the trees. Price paid reflects a back-in, w/e large RV site. Relatively new & nicely landscaped large RV resort located about half way between Kalamazoo & Grand Rapids adjacent to US-131. Interior roads are paved & big-rig friendly. The sites are on several tiered levels with generous concrete pads, all fhu, picnic tables, fire rings & cable TV. Wi-Fi is decent although I did get better signal strength outside of our coach. Depending on whether you back in or pull into a site, you might need an extension cord to reach the shore power. We had a pull-in, pond-view site & with our electric cord coming out of the rear of our coach & the shore power at the nose-end of our pad, we needed the extra cord. Luckily the camp office had a spare which they loaned us for free. There's a beautiful, log-cabin style clubhouse with a library, comfy upholstered furniture great room, fully equipped kitchen, small dining room & a lower level having a small theater room, game room & fitness room. Attached to the building is a small screened-in gazebo. The pool is large/heated with a hot-tub & the log-style bath/showerhouse/laundry is immaculate, well-lit & ventillated. There's only 1 though & for the size of the resort, they could use another one. They also have a nice children's playground, horseshoe pits, shuffleboard, basketball & volleyball courts. There isn't any shopping nearby & the closest Wal-Mart or Meijers are at least 12 miles away. There is a casino (Gun Lake) less than 5 miles. We enjoyed a nice dinner overlooking Gun Lake at Bay Pointe. The price we paid reflects a B2G1 promotion we got while attending an RV show. Normal peak season price for a fhu, 20/30/50a site is $49. We were there on a very busy 4th of July holiday. Permanents/seasonals are in a separate but adjacent area to short-term sites. Interior roads are paved, although not marked very clearly so you can end up going the wrong way down a street or two. The park is actually quite large as there appears to be a section of older sites that wasn't really being used. Sites are hard-packed gravel with grass between, picnic tables (some could use replacing) & fire rings. Although not overly spacious, they aren't as sardine-packed as many KOA's that've been to are. The pull-thru's are generous in length & will accomodate even the longest of RV's w/toads. Many of the back-in sites have mature trees at the back providing some privacy between you & the row of sites behind you. There's a small swimming/fishing lake with a beach, the campstore has all the necessities you need if you've forgotten something as well as a snack bar, a small dog run is at the rear of the campground & they have cabins for rent as well. Although I didn't use them, I did poke my head in the restrooms/showers & thought they could've been cleaner, but it was a busy holiday weekend with them getting a LOT of traffic. Being so close to the Turnpike, you have access to many fast-food & chain restaurants, a Giant Eagle grocery & Wal-Mart Supercenter. Within less than 10 miles, you can pick up the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic RR for a passenger train ride. Bring your bikes along, for a small fee, & you can hop off the train & ride your bikes on the OH & Erie Canal towpath. Price paid reflects a 50a, fhu, back-in site. More photo can be seen in HERE.

Price paid reflects fhu 50a site, discounted with Cardinal Camper Card (discontinued in 2008). I would've rated it higher if they had more fhu sites.

The campground is bigger than it looks from the entrance. It's located off Rt-15 near I-80. For directions, call the campground as the GPS will take you a real roundabout & out of your way route - the girl at registration says that is a common occurance. There are fairly large, level pull-thru sites located at the entrance. They have picnic tables & fire rings & there are screening trees/shrubbery between to give a sense of privacy. The price paid reflects a fhu pull-thru site averaged because we had one weekday rate & one weekend rate amounts. Up near the campstore, are several back-in sites in an open hilltop area. Towards the back of the campground are the wooded sites. This area is huge & there are many neatly kept seasonal/permanents in this section, but there were still lots of sites available for overnight stays. The campground has a well stocked campstore (HUGE ice cream cones - get the kids size for $1.50...it's more than enough for an adult), a gameroom, 2 pools (closed for the season when we were there in Oct), a playground, mini golf, basketball/volleyball court, horseshoe pits, a catch-n-release fishing pond, standard & deluxe cabins, a petting zoo, hiking trail, bikes/golf carts for rent & planned activities on weekends. Wi-Fi was great at our fhu site near the entrance. Area things I found to do: Knoebels Amusement Resort, Lincoln Caverns & Penn's Cave. For those train lovers (me), take a drive on the Susquehanna Trail (PA-147) to the Front Street Station in nearby Northumberland for a delicious meal housed in a former 1910 railroad station. This KOA is a nice place to stay while visiting the surrounding area. Fairly large campground located on Hammond Lake in the mid-north central area of PA, 12 miles north of Wellsboro, in the heart of the PA Grand Canyon Area. It's easily reachable on SR 287 or by Rt-15 (soon to be I-99). The campground has 3 different areas: the main campground with about 130 e/we/wes sites that are paved asphalt or concrete pads, having adjacent gravel patios with a picnic table, fire ring & lantern hook. The mature trees provide nice shade without being to close to the sites. Several sites are lakeview or lakefront. The price paid reflects a fhu back-in site during the week. There's a smaller, 26-site electric only group camping area & about a mile away, a primitive 30-site campground that has lovely lakefront/lakeview sites. The campground has several picnic pavillions, a large open area with picnic tables scattered about, volleyball, playgrounds & hiking trails. There's a small convenience store at the entrance to the campground. Showerhouses/restrooms were clean when we were there, but I think they could use better/more lighting. The lake is huge & is great for swimming, fishing, boating...etc. There are plenty of things to do in the area including: visiting the PA Grand Canyon, riding the Tioga Central RR, taking in the spectacular view from the overlook tower or walking/riding part of the Pine Creek Rail Trail. This is a beautiful area of PA & Ives Run Campground is a great place to stay while visiting the area. Medium-sized campground on a penninsula that juts into Michael Kirwan Reservoir located in NE OH. Sites are a mix of open and shaded, pet & no-pet sections, all have paved parking pads, picnic tables & fire rings. A lot of them have lake views. All sites are electric & there are about 30 fhu sites. Although the website uses the word level describing the site parking pads, you really need to have blocks/boards with you as "level" seems to be subject to interpretation. I have yet to be on a site that I didn't need blocks/boards to reach level. This campground has the "holy grail" of bath houses/restrooms. All OH state parks should have facilites so nice. They were built brand new a few years ago, are bright, clean, well-thoughtout & the showers have lockable doors on them (instead of shower curtains like many parks do) & plenty of hot water. There's an ampitheater where they show family friendly movies on summer weekends, playground, basketball & sand volleyball courts. Boating (rentals available at the marina), fishing & a beach on the reservoir. The paved interior roads make for nice bike riding & there are also mountain bike trails (for the more ambitious riders!). Plus there are miles upon miles of hiking trails available. One note, do not try to come in on Rock Spring Road from Rt 5 (north side). There is a very rickety, narrow bridge you would have to cross over & it is NOT rv-friendly. Price paid reflects a fhu, back-in site. http://www.irv2.com/attachments/reviewpost/data/36/WestBranch_008_Medium_.jpg http://www.irv2.com/attachments/reviewpost/data/36/WestBranch_003_Medium_.jpg http://www.irv2.com/attachments/reviewpost/data/36/WestBranch_002_Medium_.jpg http://www.irv2.com/attachments/reviewpost/data/36/WestBranch_004_Medium_.jpg
