Description: Crater of Diamonds State Park is the perfect place to stay while not only enjoying the diamond mining field but also to explore the Lake Greeson area Old Washigton State Park and the Ouachita Mountains. 47 Class AAA sites with tent pads, 50 amp power, water and sewer hookups that can handle up to 70 foot rigs. Supplies available in the newly renovated visitor center or in nearby Murfreesboro.

The park campgrounds have been completely renovated. It was closed in July, 2010 for a complete renovation. The newly renovated camp grounds reopened in the summer of 2010.

MORE PHOTOS ARE AVAILABLE IN MY PHOTO ALBUMS

One of the park's newest offerings is a wildlife observation blind. A gravel walkway through a secluded woodland setting leads to this blind offering a perfect vantage point to view and photograph deer, turkey, squirrels, a variety of birds and other wildlife in their natural setting. The parking lot just inside the park entrance is adjacent to this observation blind's walkway.

At the Crater of Diamonds State, you can dig for diamonds in a 37 1/2-acre plowed field, the eroded surface of an ancient volcanic pipe. This is the eighth largest, diamond-bearing deposit in the world surface area.

The Diamond Discovery Center is on your way to the diamond search area. This interpretive center serves as your gateway to the search area by offering an in-depth introduction to the unique adventure of searching for diamonds. You can visit with the park interpretive staff. Here, you’ll learn to recognize diamonds in the rough. You’ll be taught the three different search methods used at the Crater of Diamonds. And, you’ll be introduced to the diamond hunters’ hall of fame featuring photographs of the faces of successful diamond prospectors that you might recognize on the search area while you hunt for diamonds here, too.
Watch the on-demand “Diamond Hunting 101” video or one of the diamond searching demonstrations by a park interpreter.

In this building you can rent the digging tools and screens for your diamond prospecting. And, here is where you will return later to have your material identified by a park staff member. If you've found a diamond, it will be certified, too.
Along with the exhibit gallery, this two-level, barrier-free building includes vending machines and restrooms/changing rooms for the adjacent Diamond Springs water playground. The upper level features a 1,600-square-foot classroom.

Pros: Frriendly staff, well priced, close to town, easy to find
Cons: Didn't find any diaminds. ;)

A friend and I stayed in one of the 'walk in' tent sites (down a rocky slope with some stairs.. not handicap accessible by any means) which had a nice bathhouse directly across from the tent sites which was very clean. Despite the CoD site (and this page) saying they don't take the federal senior/disabled discount card as proof for discounted rates, they actually did when I went (Nov. 16-18, 2012) and the lady said they have begun to take it more recently as proof since it's easier than expecting people to bring letters from the VA, social security, their doctor... etc like the COD site says to do if you're disabled.

Pros: Nice destination, did get a 25% discount for being 62+
Cons: walking cut-through from sites to HQ was covered in rocks hard to walk on

Went here the first week of August...it was hot! We knew this going in, but you take what you can get. The diamond "panning" is work, but fun. You pay once for the day and can come and go. Everything is extra, but no big deal. We took a day and went up to Hot Springs for shopping and exploring...fun. Murfreesboro is also a nice hour stop to explore the antique shops. The park was clean and the bathrooms fine. The laundry was also clean and inexpensive. There was one hiking path (half of the length was actually paved for wheel chairs). There is also a bird blind, but we didn't see any critters...they were smarter than us and stayed out of the heat. We enjoyed our time. The state of Ark. does offer a 25% discount to anyone 62 years or older...if you are an Ark. resident you get 50% off....just ask for the discount. We got ours at checkin.

Pros: Great campsites and diamond prospecting
Cons: Didn't find any diamonds

This is a highly recommended state park. The camp sites are beautiful and spacious. They all have a big pad to park, there are picnic tables, a BBQ grill and a fire ring on an adjacent pad and there is another pad for a tent. At all the sites. No cable and no Wifi and you are nowhere near a town that you can walk or cycle to. Plan ahead and enjoy this place. Oh and by the way you can prospect for diamonds, real diamonds. Visited 2/25/17
