Description: One of Georgias many State Park with campgrounds. There are two campgrounds, one by the lake, one by the Towaliga River. All the sites closest to the lake have Yerts on them. Limited number of River campground sites actually on the water.

There was paddle boat, canoe and kayak rental available for the lake. Fishing available in the lake and the river.

Being a state park, there is a $5 parking pass required for each vehicle. Paved road, gravel sites. The road going into the River campground is a narrow 1 lane road. If the host stops someone to chat, you're stuck behind them until they're through!

The area is rich in history, once a thriving village! There are approx 4-5 miles of hiking trail, with geocaheing opportunities. Sites were level and in good shape. Additional sites had been added a few years ago.

Close to I-75, it's convenient for overnighters.

The park borders the river, and the private land across the river hosts some loud and obnoxious locals. Nothing the Park Rangers or hosts can do about the noise from over there, so if you want a quiet site by the river, it's just not gonna happen.

Pros: close to I-75, boat, canoe and kayak rental available, lake or river fishing, hiking trails
Cons: narrow road in, neighboring private land very noisy

We stayed in this State Park in 2009, and 2011. IF we had remembered the bad experience from 2009, we wouldn't have relived it in 2011.

very noisy locals use the private land across the river, and there's nothing the Park Rangers/hosts can do about it short of calling the sheriff, which they are reluctant to do.

the road in is very narrow, if someone stops at the first campground host, the road is blocked.

Bath house was closed in the first camping area, but no notice was posted about this so it was unknown before we chose our site.

sites and park are maintained, but no available water sites in the lakeside campground due to all are occupied by the Yerts. Hiking trails are ok, nothing to write home about.

I rated this park a 1, simply because there's not a lower option.

Pros: Close to I-75, clean, relaxing campgrounds
Cons: Lake side campsites are not very close to water for fishing

I have stayed at this park many times and have nothing but good things to say about it. We've stayed on the lake campgrounds and on the river and both are equally nice. The hiking trails are a lot of fun and the different view of the falls are absolutely gorgeous. Plenty of area to ride bikes or take a leisurely stroll. Very interesting history in this area and I never tire of coming here. There is a waterslide park about 1/2 mile before entering park grounds which is another fun thing to do with the kids. I would not hesitate to recommend this park for camping.
