Description: This is a campground that's located behind the Days Inn Hotel right at the Flatwoods exit on I-79 in WV. Campground guests have full use (at no charge) of the facilities at the hotel. The hotel has both indoor and outdoor pools/hot tubs and a small exercise facility. Free Wi-Fi is listed but we could not pull it in at our site, probably because we were too far away from the source at the hotel. The hotel has a buffet restaurant that was moderately priced. There is a very small group of outlet shops across the interstate, as well as several fast food restaurants, a Shoneys, and gas stations.

The campground is incorporated into the Mountain Lakes Ampitheatre complex. There was nothing going on at the ampitheatre the week we were there, but I would assume when there is, the sites are probably all booked up.

Although the park is located less than 1/4 mile off the interstate, it was suprisingly quiet even at night. Roads within the park are paved and easy to maneuver, though some other campers I spoke with seemed to think they were a bit narrow. Watch the directions signs within the campground as it's easy to end up going the wrong way on the roads, especially in the dark.

Sites are in groups of 12 or so on 4 different tiers into a hillside. The lower tiers have mature trees for shade; the very top tier had no shade trees but had pretty views of the surrounding mountains. The sites are all full hook up, gravel pads with grassy areas between sites, have concrete patios (approx 12'x15'), picnic tables, raised cooking grills, separate fire rings and a trash bag pole high enough to keep the local critters out of your rubbish. Our pull through site on the top tier was at least 75' long and level. This was typical of all the sites there so I would not hesitate staying here in even the biggest/longest of rigs.

Their website photos are good ones and, unlike other campground websites, I feel, do give an accurate representation of the place. The site lists a showerhouse and laundry which, I suspect, is in the ampitheatre complex (lowest tier), though I never searched it out. There were no such facilities on the other tiers that I noticed, so if staying there, you need to have those facilites in your camper or you'll have to trek to the ampitheater or even the hotel for the use of those ammenities. The campground does give Good Sam discounts.

There's not much to amuse children at the campground or in the immediate facility. However, there are several brochures (located in the hotel lobby) for attractions in the surrounding area.

UPDATE 2008: Since the time of the above posting, this campground has become a KOA. Unfortunately, that means higher prices but no change in ammenities.

Review Date: Sat April 12, 2008 Would you recommend the campground? Yes | Price you paid?: $33.00 | Rating: 8

Pros: All sites FHU, long pull throughs, easy access from interstate
Cons: Not much to do, some sites a long way from pool/restrooms

Price paid is for a fhu, pull-thru site. This CG was kind of on the high end of the pricing range when we stayed in Oct 2007. Now that it's a KOA, it's even more expensive.

More pics of this campground under my username in the Photos section.
