Pros:

Beautiful Beach with good breeze most of the time. large sites
|
Cons:
|
Bugs in the summer and spring, water and electric only. LONG way to nearest shopping for groceries and supplies
|
|
We attended a rally there a couple of years ago. There is a section that can be reserved and most have a view of the ocean. Water and electric only, but has a nice clean, easily accessible dump station.
Couple of narrow bridges on the road from Beaufort to the Park. Buy your supplies before reaching the park because it is a long drive back to town.
Nice canopy of pines and palm trees. Beach is firm enough for bikes and mobility scooter.
Light house is nice and there is hiking trails and fishing pier. A very nice place to spend a few days and relax

Great place, we were there in JAN and it was very quiet. Great for walks on the beach. DW found some nice shells. We were told about this from some friends and they were right on with their description. Need to put this on your schedule for visits.

Pick your site wisely. As close to the beach as you can get is best. Near the trash collection site and racoons will pester you. We've stayed here 4 times, always spring or fall seasons. Beach is great to walk and explore. Beaufort is a very nice historic town to tour/shop - we like Beaufort better than Charleston. Also, there is a nice swamp walk in Port Royal.

We've stayed here almost every summer for the past 15 years or so. It's always our favorite beach retreat. Unfortunately, the park suffered major damage from Hurricane Matthew a couple years ago, and is still recovering. They did away with most of the camp sites that were directly on the ocean, and essentially cut the number of camp sites in half, down to about 100. You have to make reservations about a year in advance in the summer, or just get lucky and find a spot. The beach is great - nice and quiet, not crowded, and great for long walks. There is a "real" lighthouse that you can climb for $2, and they have a nature center with programs for kids. The fishing pier used to be great fun, but it was damaged by the hurricane, and still hasn't been rebuilt. Surf fishing is pretty good though, and there is easy access to the inland waterways for kayaking or boating. Beaufort is a neat town to spend an afternoon or two also. Only negative is the mosquitoes are usually pretty brutal. Come prepared.
