Lazy days of summer

Posted 07-08-2010 at 07:38 AM by geaugeausmom

Summer in the South demands that one be lazy, laid back, and loose. Remember the stories of verandahs, fans and mint juleps? But, also, remember floor length petticoats and dresses with long sleeves and high necks; morning coats and cravats? How in thunder did they survive? The heat wave that has hit the East Coast this week is torture. I sit in my air-conditioned RV hardly moving because 2 air-conditioners can barely keep the heat bearable. From about 3 pm to about 6 pm, they are working...

Ain't it funny...

Posted 06-01-2010 at 11:20 AM by geaugeausmom

...how time slips away? It'a already June 2010, and I am back in Virginia.

I am trying to copy and paste these blogs so that I can print them and maybe one day write a book. However, it seems that I've been a bit repetitious in some areas, and I'm getting the chronicles somewhat twisted up. I've printed all up to today's post, so when time permits, I will go back and cull and try to get things in some sort of order.

When things seem to begin getting out of order,...

Hampshire Rocks

Posted 03-02-2010 at 11:23 AM by geaugeausmom

After the utter desolation of Death Valley, the lush green forests and the mountains of Tahoe National Park were sheer ecstasy. I found Hampshire Rocks Campground shortly after crossing over into California.

I found a spot beside a deep pool and river, surrounded by trees and grass and flowers. It was sort of tight--couldn't open one of the slides all the way--but so much beauty could not be bypassed for fully opened slides. We spent the next 14 days there, including Fourth of...

Death Valley

Posted 03-01-2010 at 10:11 AM by geaugeausmom

When watching TV or movies or reading books, I've gotten the impression that the distance between LV and Reno, or LV and LA was relatively short. I mean, people are always jumping into their cars and a short time later are playing the slots. 'Tain't true.

I by-passed LV about mid-afternoon, on the look-out always for a fuel stop. I had been warned numerous times by fellow RVers not to stop in Tonapah for any reason. Well, guess what; I pulled into the casino parking lot in Tonopah...

Long, long ago...

Posted 02-23-2010 at 11:43 AM by geaugeausmom

...I started this blog. For some reason, probably sheer laziness, I stopped writing, and I have actually missed writing.

I'm back at Gila Bend, back home, it seems. I have so many friends here that GB now seems to be my winter home. After this horrid winter in Virginia, it is good to be where there is warm sunshine. Also, back and knee problems have forced me to stay close to the RV, and my dear, good friends have seen to it that I am cared for.

I've probably written this...

I am the happy wanderer...

Posted 11-16-2009 at 08:23 PM by geaugeausmom
Updated 11-16-2009 at 08:27 PM by geaugeausmom

During the past 6 months, I have traveled from Gila Bend, AZ, to Pahrump, NV, via the Grand Canyon; Tahoe NP; Ft. Bragg, CA; north on the Pacific Coast highway to Crescent City; on to Crater Lake; Nampa, ID to Idaho Falls; then north to Montana; east and south to Yellowstone; Gros Vente, WY; the Grand Tetons; on into Utah to the Arches, the Canyonlands, Capitol Reef NP, Bryce Canyon NP. I had to forego Zion NP because my rig and toad are too long--that was a new one to me; too high, too wide, yeah,...

Back by popular demand....

Posted 09-14-2009 at 10:43 PM by geaugeausmom

Hey, RonNBama. I was missed??

This past month has found me and Miss Gogo leaving the coast and heading eastward via Crater Lake and into Idaho. I have simply exhausted my supply of superlatives and hyperbole. Crater Lake is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. The Serengeti at dawn in a hot air balloon has been denigrated to second place. As we drove around the lake, each stopping place seemed more beautiful than the last.

Being alone has its advantages....

Meandering....

Posted 08-07-2009 at 09:19 PM by geaugeausmom

Growing up in hot, dry Texas (but how I do love that place!) gave me a hunger for lush green mountains. I have spent the past 30+ years in the Applachian region of Virginia and love its lush, green beauty.

The past couple of months I have been traveling America's great northwest and have seen some of the most stupendous beauty. From northwestern Arizona, skipping desolate southwestern Nevada, and right through northern California and up the coast, I have just been in constant awe....

I feel "bloggy" today....

Posted 08-05-2009 at 12:47 PM by geaugeausmom
Updated 08-05-2009 at 01:04 PM by geaugeausmom

Being without internet services certainly cramps my style; and, then, when I get back to my blog, I really get verbose.

I've been thinking about friends: how does one become a friend; what does friendship mean? what can cause a friendship to collapse; how can one know if a friendship is truly just that--a friendship?

This will sound silly, but I truly have several BFF's.

I am surrounded by friends who truly care for and about me; they range from the...

So Long for A While...

Posted 07-10-2009 at 11:46 AM by geaugeausmom
Updated 07-10-2009 at 11:50 AM by geaugeausmom (Addition)

I'm leaving 'civilization' for a time--I think. When I leave here today, I am headed to the Pacific Coast where I'll look for a good 'wilderness' campground. I may have to stay in an RV park for a night or two while I locate my 'spot.' The wilderness means that likely I won't be able to get on the internet for a while, and I do want to leave with a few thoughts while they are still fresh--and still with me.

This morning in my email, I received one of those ubiquitous emails...

Back to "Adventures..."

Posted 07-09-2009 at 09:08 PM by geaugeausmom

The original "Adventures..." sort of fell by the wayside. I'm really wanting to get them in writing before the old mind completely loses them.

Our trip through Mexico continued south from San Carlos. I was amazed at the poverty in evidence all along the highway; the tiny towns we traveled through were heart-breaking. So many, many "houses" were simply pieces of corrugated tin and pieces of plywood leaning against each other, some with blankets draped over for...

Return to civilization

Posted 07-09-2009 at 12:20 PM by geaugeausmom
Updated 07-09-2009 at 12:22 PM by geaugeausmom (misspelled word)

Woohoo! I'm back in "civilization." Actually, that should read "un-civilization." I have spent so much time since the middle of May doing 14-day stints in our National Forests that it is becoming a way of life that I truly love. Am I at heart a hermit? Possibly.

The only fly in my ointment has been the inability to get on and stay on the internet long enough to post email and to blog. Getting connected to the internet is, at best, an 'iffy' thing when one is deep...

Adventures....

Posted 05-31-2009 at 11:48 AM by geaugeausmom

;Sorry, got bumped off.

We left Nogales and crossed the border into Mexico. Getting into Mexico was a totally painless process. While at customs, I noted men in the parking lot selling "stuff."
One guy was selling fresh, homemade tamales, and I could not resist. Mexican food is one of my favorites.
I did think about the cleanliness and sanitation--or lack thereof--of his wife's kitchen, but pushed that little niggle out of the way. After all, I was...

Adventures.....

Posted 05-31-2009 at 11:05 AM by geaugeausmom

It's hard to believe a whole week has passed since I last wrote. I've been busy working on my beading projects and sitting in the sun and walking with Gogo and all the myriad other things that seem to fill time. I love the Brit Com "Waiting for God." Sometimes, I feel that that is exactly what I am doing. Not sitting and waiting, mind you; waiting, nonetheless.

Well, back to "Adventures in Wanderland."

The week that we were to spend in Nogales...

Adventures in Wanderland...(cont)

I am so PISSED! After a really long blog, I hit 'Post Now' and everything disappeared.

This had started out as a quiet, peaceful Sunday. Just to thumb my nose at this computer, I am going to try to write it all again.

Last evening we had multiple thunderstorms pass over. At the end of one, I looked outside and saw an unbelievable sight, something I have never, ever seen before--a complete rainbow. It went from horizon to horizon and was easily one of the most...
