More Adventure Than You Can Shake a Stick At (Or Should It Be Shake a Seed At?)

Posted 03-02-2014 at 04:10 PM by FOSJ

It's been a fun week here at Lake Mead. We had some adventure in our Road Monitoring job and we got to visit with some fellow RV'rs/Bloggers; got lots of pics and worked on a small RV maintenance job. I wrote a little story about it, like to hear it, hear it goes........(anyone remember Calhoun Tubbs from In Living Color?)

Since our return to Lake Mead after Christmas we had a slow 'leak' in one of the hydraulic jacks that level the MH. No fluid on the ground or on the jacks themselves;...

Words and Pics Just Can't Do It Justice

Posted 09-09-2013 at 12:17 PM by FOSJ

It's been 2 weeks since my 60th birthday and 2-month wedding anniversary. And just in case you're wondering, being old and married is going OK!

*****Editor's Note***** After 'proofing the blog, Joan looks at me and says "So it's just OK?" Now I know I put an exclamation point after OK, but evidently that's not enough....so....

The first 2 months of married life have been unbelievable. It's hard to describe what it's been like. Words just can't express what...

I've Still Got it Baby!

Posted 08-26-2013 at 11:23 PM by FOSJ

I woke up Saturday, turned on the radio and what was playing? Hot Rod Lincoln. Yeah baby! It's my 60th birthday and most of the time I feel like a hot rod Lincoln. I can still remember when I thought about my parents or my grandparents in their 50's and thought to myself "that's old". But that's not how I feel as I turn 60. Joan and I are blessed with good health and positive attitudes that contribute to feeling 'younger'. Maybe not younger, but I certainly don't feel as old as I used...

Busy Busy Busy

Posted 03-14-2013 at 09:22 PM by FOSJ

Joan and I have completed 5 weeks of volunteering here at Echo Bay and so far it's been everything we could have hoped for. The upper campground where we are located is quiet and comfortable; the temps have ranged from mid to high 30's overnight to low 70's when the heat wave passes over. Some mornings we've woken up to see snow on the mountain tops across Lake Mead.

Usually we start our workday in long sleeves, but are quickly down to short sleeves. Lots of blue sky and the occasional...

Jeepers Creepers

Posted 03-13-2013 at 10:14 AM by FOSJ

We made it back to Vegas on Thursday(10th)….7 days, 2600 miles, 5 hotels, 8 McDonalds' sweet tea stops, 1 detour to Carlsbad Caverns, and 12 friends well-met and visited with along the way! All in all it was a great trip back to Florida for the holidays, but we are glad to be home in the RV.

We took a few days and just relaxed, then took care of a few maintenance issues such as replacing the black tank valve in the water bay and getting our Dish Network/Winegard Antennae properly...

I'm Givin' Her All She's Got Captain! If I Push It Any Harder the Whole Thing's Gonna

Posted 10-23-2012 at 09:52 PM by FOSJ

Joan and I finished our first workamping job on Monday the 8th and headed out for a few weeks of relaxation before reporting to Amazon in Fernley Nevada.

We headed out east through the Columbia River Gorge stopping at Emigrant Springs State Park just east of Pendelton. This was the second Oregon State Park in which we've camped and one of several that we've driven through or visited. I've got to say that the Oregon State Parks we've seen are excellent facilities. In speaking with...

And the Answer Is......"We're Going to Hell!"

Posted 10-08-2012 at 12:44 AM by FOSJ

Monday will be 5 Months, 3 weeks and 4 days since we arrived in Estacada, Oregon. Even though the work has slowed down quite a bit in the last few weeks, our time here has really flown by. Of the 17 campgrounds along the Clackamas River, only 4 are still open; and 3 of those will close next weekend. On Monday I've been asked to assist the maintenance supervisor close and shutter a 2-story cabin. Monday will be our last day working in Mt Hood National Forest this season.

This season...

An Indecent Proposal?

Posted 10-08-2012 at 12:41 AM by FOSJ

We've been burning the candle at both ends this week. Our workweek started early on Sunday as we were shifting days to allow us to take more time off with Jim and Debbie. The work week flew by filled with the various tasks it takes to maintain the campgrounds.

We hiked the 1.5 miles up to Bagby Hot Springs on Monday taking the 'mule' with us. The mule is a DR Hauler, motorized wheelbarrow used to move materials and supplies along the narrow trails in the forest. Our Operations Manager,...

Shake Down Cruise....There's Still a Ringing in My Ears.....

Posted 09-07-2010 at 01:57 PM by FOSJ

First Blog. Not sure where this will go or how it will turn out, but there's only one way to find out. Jump in and see if you can swim!

Just got back from the first trip in our new RV. We've had a 25' Class C for 3 years which we sold a few weeks ago. Two weeks ago we bought a used 40'DP and decided to take it out for the holiday weekend. We knew there would be a lot of new things we needed to learn as we moved from a small gas chassis to the larger diesel. So we started planning a...
