civil war battlefield tour

Posted 06-25-2012 at 05:21 PM by JimmyLeggett

Left home on 12th June for a two onth tour of civil war battlefields with the dw and our 14 yr old grandaughter. So far a good trip except for one night at Camp Ocean Forest in Emerald Isle, NC. Grossly overpriced at $72 for a site in a white trash trailor park with rude people. Worst place I have ever seen.

On the way to Petersburg, VA I developed a really bad shimmy at 50 MPH. Turned out to broken radial belts in the left front tire. Tomorrow while we are on the trail of Lee's...

Texas Boomers Rally

Posted 04-10-2012 at 06:32 PM by JimmyLeggett

Attended my first rally with the Texas Boomers. It was Johnson City and along with a couple of other first timer attendees it was fun and very relaxing.
I left behind the dogs and the DW. Just me, my motor home and a lot of relaxation.
The Texas Boomers are a really neat group of people and they make everyone feel welcome. Sandy is an outstanding Wagonmaster, thank you for a wonderful welcome.
The park was a nice surprise and a lot more WOW factor than Fort Wilderness....

back again

Posted 03-19-2012 at 10:49 AM by JimmyLeggett

I didn't realize it had been so long since I posted to my blog. Have had two 30 trips on the boat and that felt good.
On my prostrate cancer follow up exam two weeks ago, I am 0.1 PSA and that is very good.

We just returned from six days at Diseny Orlando with my DW, daughter and her family of hubby, 2 grandsons and a 13month old. We stayed at the Fort Wilderness campgrounds, a little pricey on the upper end but very nice.

For the price I was expecting a drive...

Posted 12-21-2011 at 11:28 PM by JimmyLeggett

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

I am spending my Christmas on a towboat and will soon be headed north to the Illionois river, ice and snow.

Back to the boat

Posted 12-05-2011 at 05:34 PM by JimmyLeggett

Tomorrow (12-6) I pick up the rental car and depart for Houston to do the drug screen and benzene periodic on Wensday. I am not scheduled to go to the boat until Thursday so it gives me to two nights to spend with my grandchildren in Katy. A nice benefit.

For those who don't know, boat in this case is a push boat and we push chemical barges. It is 90 ft long and 1950HP with a crew of eight.
I am going as a contract (trip pilot) so unlike regular employees, my pay starts tomorrow...

off to work I go

Posted 11-27-2011 at 05:33 PM by JimmyLeggett

Hello everyone. I finished radiation treatments for prostrate cancer on 23d November and my PSA is 0.3 which is great.

Went to family doctor and got my medication and diabetic statements done and sent into the company I will trip for. My urologist gave me a release to work with no restrictions.

Hi Ho, Hi Ho its off to work I go this coming week.

Thanksgiving was with family and this year there was a lot to be thankful for, a new granddaughter, wife's...

taking a break

Posted 10-08-2011 at 08:29 AM by JimmyLeggett

Radiation therapy is six down and 37 treatments to go. Monday to Friday for 30 minutes.
We decided to come to the Tres Rio park for the weekend. Just relax and veg out. Feels good.
Have never seen the park this full before. No 50 amp spots left that we can fit into so took a pull through 30 amp. Pedestal threw the circuit breaker, they fixed it so now its good.
Holiday Rambler folks are having a week long rally so the park is stuffed.
The short trip from home to here we...

On the road again, finally

Posted 09-26-2011 at 10:06 PM by JimmyLeggett

The DW's brother from New Zealand is visiting her sister in Arkansas and Friday suffered a stroke. Using the excuse that if he needed transport any distance the motor home would be much more comfy, we made the trip in the MH dragging the scion on the tow dolly.

Departed Saturday am early. Had a non-programmed stop in Dallas to get the inside tire on the right rear repaired. Turns out was a leaking valve stem core and some leakage around the bead. There were three no speak english...

Texas Drivers license for motor homes

Posted 09-15-2011 at 06:42 AM by JimmyLeggett

Any vehicle that weighs 26001 pounds or more, requires a Class "B" license. This is not a CDL but is sometimes referred to as a non-commercial CDL. What ever the various names, the bottom line is that; we who drive Motor Homes that weight in at 26000 pounds and beyond and almost all the diesels meet that criteria in Texas are required to have a Class B license.

The written test comes solely from Chapter 15 of the Texas Drivers Handbook. There is a study and review section...

life on the ranch

Posted 09-11-2011 at 05:38 AM by JimmyLeggett

This morning I wake up with a full parking lot at Fortress Leggett.

Yesterday we got the coach back, complete with a new one piece rubber roof and the basement doors wringles ironed out. The work was performed by Philip Brown at Outdoor Fun RV in Plano, Texas. He did a good job.

Friday night the toad (scion Xb referred to as the toaster) repairs were completed and car returned. A good thing since the DW is a bit tired of me using her Lincoln for a utility vehicle....

Sore knees

Posted 08-26-2011 at 06:52 AM by JimmyLeggett

Finally sitting down to write in my blog.

My MH is at Outdoor Fun RV in Plano, Texas for repairs to the wrinkled doors when a post at the local Wally world jumped out and tagged me. I went to the shop last week to pick up the insurance check so Phillip could get some money in the bank.

Driving to Plano is a big deal since it is an hour and a half drive and most of it in Dallas metro area traffic and it was HOTTTT. But I wanted to check out his repair work and it is excellent...
