The season has begun and thanks to the cold, and I do mean COLD weather we have been experiencing and the very high price of fuel here in the State of Connecticut we are off to a very slow start. The weekend weather, although sunny, was very windy and very cold. Unfortunately we host most of our activites in an open pavilion, needless to say participation was down. Anyone brave enough to venture out did so in hats, gloves and scarves. I have been following the forecast and things look a little...

Well, our first weekend of 2012 has come and gone. The weather was beautiful, all the seasonals are well and happy to be back. Good to see their smiling faces!
Most of the park repairs were made, except that dern bathroom. But the sheetrock is going up today, then the FRP goes in. Unfortunately the carpenter goes in for surgery on Tuesday so after that we are on our own. We had a big fire in 2007 that took out our main building, being under insured forced us to do a lot of the rebuilding...

We have been working like mad to get everything done. The power company turned the power on a week late, set us behind, and even with the warmest week in March I can remember, we are struggling to get everything done. Not in a small way because of the decision to remodel the last restroom. If you ever need something to slow down progress, bite off a project too large to comprehend! Once we got the building gutted, we realized the project was going to be larger than we thought. The building was...

After a milder winter than in recent memory, we headed home. Bad weather waited for us to make that decision. We had tornado watches, rain and wind during the southern half of our journey home and snow and ice for the northern stretch. Taking our time to avoid the worst of it, we made it back in three days, so we are home again, back to the working side of the fence. After many hugs and kisses from the grandkids, we are settling back in to work. Bundlng wood, cleaning up the park, fixing tables,...

Life rocks when your house rolls! Our working vacation is in the final week. We left Florida yesterday and arrived in North Carolina today. Tomorrow, I will make a few call backs, pay a few bills and put business on the back burner so we can spend time visiting family.
We did come up with a few good ideas to bring back to our park. It's difficult to come up with new ideas but if you want to keep participation up, you need to change things up once in awhile. We are always open to new ideas,...

Well we never made it to Disney, or Universal, but we did have two larger televisions installed in the rig. Unfortunately we are going to have to make our way back to Lakeland where we had the work done because the one in the living room keeps turning itself off. It's a good thing the one in the bedroom doesn't do it, too. We had the guys from our satellite company out here switching out our cable boxes so we can get high def, somehow our vacation has turned into a quest for better television...

No business conducting this week. I am taking the whole week off. The newsletter is out, the bills are paid and someone else is handling the phones! I am going to Disney! Well, only if I can convince the hubby. Maybe universal? As much as we enjoyed spending time with family, we are over due for some fun. Next week we have a wedding, so this week is ours and ours alone. I just hope we don't waste too much time saying, I don't know, what do YOU want to do? Been married nearly 40 years,...

Today, we left the Tampa show for Hudson, Fl. To visit with my Aunt and Uncle. They are snow birds living in a retirement community that has mobile homes and sites for rv's. It is always good to see them and as they get on in years and their health ain't what it used to be, it feels important to spend time with them. I think they enjoy showing us around, introducing us to all their friends, taking us to the "Internet cafe". We will stay 6 nights here then head to Jetty park. In the...

Finally back out on the road, happy to be here. This trip has us balancing on the top rail of the fence, working at the show, enjoying our rig and getting some park business taken care of when we have some down time. I probably should be working on my newsletter, but there's always tomorrow!I am happy to say after our first attempt at winterizing everything still works and there is no water gushing out of anything, I feel like we accomplished a major victory. Of course, we have five rental trailers...

We are back. About four hours later than planned thanks to Connecticuts traffic tie ups. Three bumper to bumpers, one just prior to our exit to home. But we found some low hanging branches on the road into our park. Found them when they hit the rig. Guess they will be coming down tomorrow! Happy to say the park is still here. I haven't walked into the office yet. I am waiting for daylight. I am sure there are plenty of call backs to make and mail to go through. It will be nice to touch base with...

We have been enjoying the camping side of the fence for nearly two weeks now. I am actually looking forward to going home as I am really missing the grand kids. Our test run in our new to us 2008 Newmar Ventana has been going pretty well, a few minor things but no real complaints. While my hubby washed and waxed the rig, I made call backs and reservation on the computer. Paid a couple of bills, unfortunately just because the income grinds to a halt in the winter, the bills do not. I will...

Our family owns and operates a campground. 2011 was our 12th. Season. We also have been campers. Starting out in a tent, moving up to a pop up, then came a 35 foot travel trailer, then we purchased our park. We thought our days as campers were over as we now work 7 days a week from March to the end of November. That's 7 14 hour days during the busy season and 10 hour days in the shoulder season. We manage 8 hour days the rest of the time as long as nothing goes wrong, like the underground...
