One of the things that I feel all the motorhomes that I have seen are lacking in is the abscence of an adequate heating system in the rear of the rv which is supplied with heat from the engine same as up front for the passengers and the windscreen. A blown air system heated by the engine would be a big plus in the back of any rv and should cost nothing extra to run.Why is this not fitted as standard .Maybe rv's are only meant to be used in summer. To this end I decided to get rid of that cold spot...

Bingo!

By the way ,I just want to say that when I write a long winded account of something I rarely read it over so forgive my spelling mistakes. I know I should read it over but I cant abide it ,never could even when I was at school. Anyhow some good news to report. One of the reasons for buying a Sun Voyager was the fact that it had a Cummins 6 cylinder engine. I have loved these engines for years, had them fitted in barges and generators, even got a 4 cylinder version with 4 hours on it in my shed...

More exploration.

Posted 01-10-2012 at 03:28 AM by Nomad100

Yesterday the weather was pretty good so I thought I would have another look underneath the rv and do some greasing.I wanted to check the brake discs to see if she was marking them correctly and evenly on each side.Couldn't take the wheels off as I still dont have any tools to fit so a look underneath was called for. Our yard is concreted so I didn't fancy lying on wet concrete so first thing i did was make a little trolley from a piece of plywood cut off and a set of sofa wheels which were lying...

I took the ferry as a foot passenger and my bad humour calmed a little. It was the only course of action available to me but it meant having to do the unthinkable and arrive home without the RV,the wife thought I was mad to buy it in the first place.I was facing a big 'well now I told you so'. Anyway she had to drive a round trip of 500 miles to collect me from the Ferry and her fatigue stemmed her annoyance.
As soon as I got home I planned my return and figured on the problems and the solution.I...

Stranded!

Posted 11-08-2011 at 03:14 AM by Nomad100

Arrived at dusk at the ferry terminal in Wales. The ferry crossing to Ireland was due to leave at 3am so I rolled into the bunk and shivered for a few hours, couldnt sleep. Anyhow got up and walked around and tried a few appliances, nothing worked and I checked the lpg tank.Yes there was some gas in there. Cigarette lighter plug for phone charger had ceased to function, interior lights seemed dimmer than before, hey they have just gone out. House batteries must be flat so I decide to start the engine...

Bringing it home.

Posted 10-23-2011 at 11:22 PM by Nomad100

I had about 200 miles of motorway to travel to the ferry terminal, this was my greatest worry as I knew a motorway breakdown would be mega expensive.Once on the ferry I knew I would be all right as That was as good as being home even though I still would have another 250 miles to travel.Anyhow I had arranged to buy it warts and all so I paid the man, started it right up and set off.I had gotten the previous owner to put road tax on it the day before and it had a new mot test report so all was legal.The...

Restoring a 93 Gulfstream Sun Voyager

Posted 10-23-2011 at 10:40 PM by Nomad100

Recently retired,I decided I needed a project and as I had been hankering after an american rv for some time I decided to look for a particular model .I had seen what I considered my ideal motorhome on a previous visit to Florida about 4 years ago.It was a 94 Gulfstream Sun Voyager. This was the one for me.Of all the rv's I had ever seen this one model had a lot of good features,it looked right,it had a diesel engine and was built on a lorry chassis. This to me meant I could experiment with the engine...
