Update: Am I seeing Double? Again? -- 6/6/2019

I recently took my 2001 NewAire in for service at my regular shop: Scott's RV Truck and Auto in Rockford, Illinois. I can't say enough good about these folks, and apparently the word has gotten around, cause what should show up while mine was in but another NewAire!

The picture is courtesy of Scott's Service Manager, Terry Adkins....

Update: No Awning = No Problem -- 5/2/2019

Our 2001 NewAire came without a coach-mounted awning. Fortunately for us, that's what we wanted (or didn't, as the case may be). While there are original NewAires out there equipped with coach-mounted awnings, those we've seen appear to be mounted a bit cattywampus. This is likely due to the coach's unusual lines.

Instead of an awning,...

Update: A NewAire Pair (One is For Sale!) -- 4/14/19

A fellow NewAire owner sent me these pictures of his 2001 NewAire parked side by side with another 2001 rig. The pictures were taken very recently in southwest Michigan.

You can tell these are both 2001 models by just looking at the side windows. The 2001 NewAire models came equipped with angular swept back windows that are roughly...

Update: We Moved Indoors -- 3/31/19

During a recent online surfing session, I saw a sidebar ad for indoor RV storage in my area. Still smarting from our more recent storage woes and winter weather (see previous posts), I decided it was worth a further look.

So I called: Duplex Indoor Storage in Sycamore, Illinois. They're located in what had been a large printing and warehouse facility...

No credit taken: I just though folks would like to read about Cummins race history at Indianapolis.

Enjoy!

Update: Homeward Bound (and Spruced) -- 3/16/19

After 6 weeks enjoying the warmer weather in Florida and Georgia, we somewhat reluctantly turned homeward toward Chicago. The DW suggested that we have the coach cleaned up along the way, so we hit the Blue Beacon Truck Wash just outside Nashville, Tennessee.

If you've never tried Blue Beacon to have the road washed from your rig,...

Update: Oh Savannah (& Tybee Island) -- 3/9/19

Our last stop before turning homeward is Tybee Island just east of Savannah, GA. While we've been to Savannah a couple times before, this was our first visit to Tybee.

We stayed at the Rivers End Campground, which is a lovely, well-kept park situated at the north end of the small island, just a stone's throw from the beaches and the...

Update: Hooked on ScanGauge D -- 3/2/19

This is an overdue tech post about my personal addiction to the ScanGauge D monitor. D is for Diesel, and I can't imagine operating a diesel-powered coach (or big rig) without one.

While this well-thought-out computer/monitor (shown above at engine idle) will display a whole host of engine operating parameters (AKA gauges), my usage falls...

Update: Walking Old St Augustine -- 2/27/19

Monday dawned sunny and clear, providing us with a great day to do a walking tour of old St Augustine. We started at the southern end, on King Street, at Flagler College (pictured).

The college is housed in what was originally the luxury Ponce de Leon Hotel built in 1888, which is a stunning piece of architecture. Tours are offered, but we...

Update: GR8 Salt Springs & Cedar Key -- 2/22/19

We've been staying at the Salt Springs Recreation Area in Ocala National Forest in north-central Florida. The actual springs (pictured) allow swimming in crystal clear water that is a constant 72F year-round.

The grounds and buildings are immaculately kept with neat trails and walkways. The camping facilities are among the best we've...

Update: The Not Forgotten Coast -- 2/19/19

Traveling from Pensacola to Salt Springs, we decided to drive the Forgotten Coast Highway, Florida 98, to see for ourselves what that part of the world looks like.

I realized that we would also bear witness to the aftermath of Hurricane Michael. We both grew up in the heartland's Tornado Alley, but nothing could prepare us for the devastation...

Update: Fort Pickens & Food -- 2/15/19

We toured the well-preserved ruins at Fort Pickens today, just a stone's throw from our campsite.

What remains of the fort is still a very impressive edifice - the largest coastal defense fort in the US arsenal. It was built brick by brick in the 1830's using slave labor, and alternately held by both Union and Confederate forces during...

Update: We Found Florida -- 2/8/19

We made it to Fort Pickens just outside Pensacola Beach, and it's 70F. It is truly amazing what a 95 degree temperature increase will do for one's general disposition. And fresh seafood.

Speaking of amazing seafood, if you're ever in the Pensacola area, you have to try the fabulous fare at Joe Patti's. The seafood gumbo is divine, the prices...

Update: Digging Out & Loading -- 2/1/19

Our planned departure for the Florida Panhandle is tomorrow, and it hit a balmy 10F today, so I went to the storage yard and discovered they had plowed in the NewAire.

I expected a bit of shoveling, but nothing like what I encountered. So I bit the bullet, dug her out, got the generator fired up, and I'm heating the engine block as...

Our planned departure for the Florida Panhandle is only a week away, but local overnight temps have been well below zero Fahrenheit and falling fast.

Because the NewAire has been parked since October, I decided yesterday morning to get her fired up in advance, figuring if I encountered any...
