9/5/12

It was a beautiful day. The week was warming up nicely and the seastate was calm, so you gotta be on the water!!!!

We took the Balmy Days out of Boothbay Harbor for the 90 minute, ten mile trip through the Bay of Maine. The trip out was beautiful and we were able to view several new lighthouses as well as a better view of the RAM Light that we had seen from the coast a few days ago.

The Maine Event - Boothbay Harbor

Posted 09-23-2012 at 01:04 PM by TAKINBETZ

9/8/12 - Shore Hills Campground

By the time we got the car secured on the dolly it was 10:30 and we were on our way south. It was foggy and got foggier as we traveled past the harbors heading to US 1. We traveled about 120 miles south through interesting little coastal towns … which was probably beautiful… if we could see it! Went across a very tall bridge which probably had a beautiful view …. if we could have seen it!

Arrived in Shore Hills Campground outside of...

The Maine Event - Cranberry Island

Posted 09-23-2012 at 12:44 PM by TAKINBETZ

As we drove out of the park this morning, the weather forecast read “dense fog”. It looked clear where we were and our plan was to hop a mail boat ferry to Great Cranberry Island for the day. As we got nearer Seal Harbor we could see the fog over the water and it remained foggy as we drove to Northeast Harbor to catch the ferry.

We boarded the Beal & Bunker Mail Boat providing public transportation to Great Cranberry and Islesford (Little Cranberry) Islands. It carries mail...

The maine event - acadia

Posted 09-23-2012 at 12:14 PM by TAKINBETZ

9/3/12

We left Gorham NH on Route 3 heading to Maine and the drive was absolutely beautiful. The road stretches out before you, undulating long sweeps up and long sweeps down.

As we came through Rumsford Falls, there was a truck in a pull off selling Moose Horns. Dave thought they would look good on the front of the RV!

BAAH HAABAAH(Bar Harbor)
Arrived in Baah Haabaah around 2:30.

Apparently the only way...

Climb into the clouds - mt washington

Posted 09-23-2012 at 10:36 AM by TAKINBETZ

9/2/12

Woke up to rain again this morning. This is the second morning it has rained without any predictions … how dare! Not following the rules!

Eventually it cleared up enough that we decided to head to Mount Washington for our last day in the Presidentials. When we got to the roadway, the top of Mt Washington and others were in the clouds.

The notches ---- presidentials

Posted 09-23-2012 at 10:23 AM by TAKINBETZ

9/1/12

This morning was bright and beautiful but the clouds were still hanging low from last night. We decided to drive down past Mt Washington to North Conway over the Kamkamugus Highwy through Franconia Notch, up Route 3 to 302 through Crawford Notch. As we passed Mt Washington the clouds were still hanging low on top of him.

Driving down through the small towns to North Conway we passed Pinkham Notch Visitors Center where thousands of cars were parked, filling...

DOLLY COPP and THE PRESIDENTIALS

Posted 09-23-2012 at 10:10 AM by TAKINBETZ

We've been Campground Hosting at Mt Ascutney, Vermont for the summer, due to depart Labor Day Weekend. They asked us to stay on through September which sounded great but we already had a trip planned to the White Mountains and then over to the Maine Coast.

So, we took two weeks off, headed east to return to Mt Ascutney mid-September.

LABOR DAY WEEKEND
The ride up and over to Gorham, NH was beautiful, just as we had expected it to be in this part of...
