A Blog for the Newbie's Newbie!
Hi Hayden--thanks for the kind words. My dog seems to be over whatever the problem was. She's finally eating again. That's a relief.
I'm glad that you are enjoying the blog. I hope that my experiences will be helpful to someone somewhere.
Good luck buying the mh. irv2 is full of information and folks who will answer any questions you may have!
One thing I haven't mentioned anywhere in ths blog is levelling the mh. My mh does not have levellers, so I must use blocks. At this point, because I camp in national parks, county parks, state parks etc. I have realized that these sites will likely not be level. So, my choices are to continue to level my mh with the blocks, or to camp in commercial campgrounds which probably will be level. From what I have seen, levelling is worse than emptying the black tank....Posted 05-07-2012 at 07:28 AM by kmesaaz

A Blog for the Newbie's Newbie!
Leaving for Alaska this week, and will be gone for two weeks. Plenty of time to think about the mh, and worry about it sitting in the heat in storage (covered). Hmmmmm.Posted 05-05-2012 at 06:55 PM by kmesaaz

A Blog for the Newbie's Newbie!
OK, don't know if it's the heat in AZ, the torn tendons in the foot, the complete lack of any mh experience, or the fact that maybe I'm not cut out to be the owner of an rv, but I'm not enjoying being an owner at all. Toooo many things to know, toooo many manuals to read (and this from a retired English teacher) and tooo much jargon that I just don't understnad.
Everything is functioning (thankfully, I was able to ask all sorts of questions on this site BEFORE I did something wrong), but maybe I should just be a renter, not an owner. Too much responsibility and work to maintain the rv.Posted 04-28-2012 at 12:19 PM by kmesaaz

RVIA Claims - RV Industry Won't Be Impacted Until Fuel Reaches $10 per Gallon
Lordy! Don't know who wrote this and don't care, but it sure sounds like he/she wrote it fto make the boss feel good! Must be looking for a raise. What percentage of RVers are retired? What percentage of those retirees have unlimited recreational $$?Posted 04-28-2012 at 11:04 AM by cekkk

Ultrapower Allison 1000 Grade Brake (UAGB) Installation 101
I didn't think that folks were still reading this piece but thanks for the review.Quote:
In the piece I wrote that I was the first person in the field to install the kit and that it went very well.
In regard to the dash, certain models of Winnebago motorhomes had their dash pods on hinges. Lifting the dash with this fitted is a breeze. In later production years, Winnebago only provided fixed dash pods and no longer provided easy access to the under dash wires and components.
I have found that most RV manufacturers have fixed dash pods so I feel that my rig "type" is the exception rather than the norm.Posted 04-27-2012 at 06:37 AM by DriVer

Ultrapower Allison 1000 Grade Brake (UAGB) Installation 101
WOW...That seems to have been a big project but it appears ya done good! My question is how did you get the dash to pop up like that? I'm thinking I may need that bit of knowledge for a radio project.Posted 04-26-2012 at 10:04 PM by athuddriver

Lots to learn
Do you have a washer and dryer in your unit? I had the same problem and found my dryer hose was only taped onto the back of the dryer and had fell off allowing the dryer to vent inside the unit. I still get some condensation on my windshield at times but the majority of it went away when I fixed the hose. I also run my house fan often to remove normal mosture build up from showers etc.Posted 04-23-2012 at 05:51 AM by ew9266

Resealing and re-coating my RV's EPDM rubber roof
I resealed my EPDM roof on my trailer last year with the liquid resealer from Dicor (the same folks who make the rubber roof) and I am pleased with the results. It is important to follow the directions for cleaning prep, application and weather temps for curing. I am pleased with the results and would do it again, as needed, in the future.Posted 04-22-2012 at 05:12 PM by Chris-OR

Driving Down 101 in Oregon
About 18 Months ago, My DW and I traveled through Portland, then West on Hwy 30 along the Columbia River to Astoria, It is good road and a nice drive. As you arrive in East Astoria, you will pass through downtown, no problems, over a bridge or two going West then start South down Hwy 101. Hwy 101 is generally good road but does have slower sections due to turns, etc.. You should be able to average between 30 - 50 mph along the route. Take you time and enjoy one of the greatest coast routes in the US.Posted 04-22-2012 at 04:45 PM by Chris-OR

RVIA Claims - RV Industry Won't Be Impacted Until Fuel Reaches $10 per Gallon
It would be interesting to get an accurate report of RV dealer sales. I know in my area from private parties I'm seeing lots of RVs for sale and have seen some very good prices in motor homes. If gas does edge towards $10 a gallon RV sales will probably trickle down to nearly nothing. The manufacturing and delivery cost of RVs (along with everything else) will also increase. Does the RVIA think their manufacturing members are going to simply absorb that cost?Posted 04-21-2012 at 05:34 PM by rocknrun
