Days 3-4-5 of the trip to Hot Springs AR

Posted 11-23-2018 at 07:53 PM by MEWright

Day 3 we spent in Hot Springs shopping and walking around the town center. Cute little stores but nothing really special. We found some Christmas presents and did a lot of walking. It was still pretty cold so we ducked into every open store. Had great pizza at Grateful Head. This was a very good pizza, loaded very fresh topping and an awesome crust. Highly recommend going here. They also have homemade root-beer for the kids. Their 14” large was way more than enough for me and my wife. Daughter had a single slice of cheese. A quick trip up and down bathhouse row and then we headed back to the CG.

Overall, I would give Hot Springs a 5 out of 10. It really looks like it needs a tourist revival. Immediately off Bathhouse row the town level dropped off sharply. Boarded buildings, vape shops, abandoned buildings. This could be an awesome town with amazing attractions, but it desperately needs a resurgence. The stores seemed to cater to a clientele that was frankly not going there anymore. A much older base than us. With the bathhouses not open to kids, most of them not open at all and little if nothing to do with kids downtown I would not recommend taking kids there. It took us going into about 20 shops before we even found post cards. Don’t get this wrong, its nice. Cute little art shops and some boutique clothing stores, super friendly people (except in one store- owner was rude to my daughter so we left.)
We did by some pieces at the art co-op. We got some very nice one-off Christmas cards and my wife got some very nice earrings.

Bathhouse Row appeared to me to have such amazing potential. I am not sure if its on its way down or back up. We will need to return. Please don’t scream at me for my opinion. This is what I saw, how I felt and our story.

Spending time at the National Park, now that’s a different plan all together. There is a new mountain biking park. We did not make it there this trip but plan on returning just for that park alone.

Thanksgiving Day we just hung out at the CG all day ridding bikes and watching TV outside. Built a nice fire in the evening and at Turkey dinner pot pies my wife made for the trip. These were so yummy. The entire dinner in a 7” personal potpie.

This morning we left Hot Springs and headed for Tyler TX. 4.5 driving hours with almost no real traffic and we got set up in Tyler Oaks RV park on 69W. This place is large, easy access from 69, wide streets, concrete pads, gravel roads, bad grass between the spots but they are doing allot of work and I am sure it will be a very nice park by spring 2019. Price was very reasonable at $43 per night with no 2 or 3-night minimum, last minute on a holiday weekend. As I said they are doing some major landscaping around the playscapes and frisbee golf course and it should be done soon. I expect it to be very nice.

Tomorrow we head o Austin to finish the trip. Hoping we have no traffic tomorrow. We planned to stay off all major roads due to the holiday weekend.

Hope you had a great holiday where ever you where. Travel Safe
