End of day 2 in Hot Springs ARK

Posted 11-20-2018 at 08:00 PM by MEWright

We left Crater of Diamonds at 11 and made it through some amazingly beautiful country without getting distracted, much….

This is a beautiful state with pretty good roads. Logging trucks like to haul ass but they do that everywhere. Pulled off on the shoulder a few times to let traffic by so we could drive slowly and enjoy the mountains and incredible views. Nice windy roads big shoulders not much traffic and its warming up nicely during the day so my feet are not hating me as much today.

We arrive at Catherine’s Landing at 1pm. This was the highest recommended park in the entire state of Arkansas and in 1 min we understand why.

Ok, THE GOOD, The park and check in…
Pulling into the park there is a HUGE staging area for RV check in really made for LARGE RIGS. Pull in run in get the map, Wi-Fi password, shower and bath codes and back n the coach in 5min…The lanes are super wide, easy flat concrete pads. 30 and 50-amp, 8 feet to water connection, cable, 8 feet to sewer. This place would be more amazing in the summer. 194 RV spots a few yurts, some cabins, pool, boat ramp, frisbee golf, dog park, kid park, everything the family would want to stay here for the entire summer. Talking to the staff, they offered every suggestion- food, shopping, fishing guides, everything I threw at her she had a great answer. An don’t forget Sasquatch, that hairy jerky thief is running amuck here..
We are in a back in spot 1 row away from the lake, 1 spot from the end, 100 Yards from the boat ramp, we can see the water, the cliffs on the other side of the lake, its breathtaking. The park is amazingly clean and nicely thought out and laid out. It just make sense when you are driving in.

20 min later we are fully connected, fully extended, dogs out on her run, daughter is out riding her bike, wifes making lunch and I am just starting to really relax…

After a quick lunch we ran into town to check it out and the town center did not disappoint. We can’t wait to get back tomorrow to really play.

THE BAD.. Don’t come here and expect anything like Pagosa Springs and their hot springs. Apparently there are only 2 “Bath Houses” springs still open in Hot Springs ARK. YEP 2 bath houses, one is like a large swimming pool (soaking pool) and the other is like an 1800’s bath house. Old tubs filled with spring water.
Now to be fair we have not been to either, this is how they were descried to us.

THIS IS THE REALLY REALLY BAD PART, no kids under 10 at the soaking pool no kids under 14 in the bath tubs. This suck because we have an 8 yr old. So not Hot Springs for our trip to HOT SPRINGS….

Someone needs to take the Pagosa Springs model and recreate that here. Seriously, there’s the model folks, copy the model. It works…

Looks like we will be mountain biking, hiking and shopping. I think we are up to it. More to come tomorrow…
