Change of plans, giving winter camping a try.

Posted 10-29-2014 at 12:43 PM by michealwhela

Now that I have found a warm dry place to keep Winnie, have it all washed and ready to store for a few months it occured to me that deer hunting season is only a few weeks away. Now is the time to prep it for the winter adventure. Clean and recoat the rubber seals, purchase a three sensor remote temperature monitor (one for freshwater compartment, one for black and gray water compartment and one for the pump bay) and install a 60 watt fixture in the water service bay. Next is to fill the propane and get a couple of spare bottles of propane. The place I camp does have power in the middle of the woods so my ceramic heaters will help to supplement the heat.

My next step is to blow all the lines clear of water an filll just before we leave. I figure the heat of the fresh fill will keep the compartments above freezing until we get to the woods. By that time the coach will be warm and I can use the faucets. Made 4 jack pad plywood plates to keep the jacks from freezing to the ground. Add a couple of snow shovels and a good push broom to the bay, insulating pillows to the roof vents and should be good to go. The only thing stopping us now is an early snow store that would block access to the woods.

Beyond the coach prep load the gear, guns, and DW and be on our way. If this all works out I can return Winnie to the warm cave when we get back. The plan should work, now we will see how the execution goes.
