The real cost of purchasing a used motorhome.
Well, the first trip had to be postponed due to the DW getting sick. Poor her, she was looking forward to an extended weekend. In it's place she has been tied to the house for 4 days. As for me, between making sure she stays down and rests and the extra free time I thought I would do a few more of the little things that I had put off until another time.
After 3 days of tinkering I now have put new gas lifts on two of the basement doors, spent some more time cleaning and waxing and even cleaned and lubed the hydraulic lift hacks. As the rain storm moved in early my outdoor activity came to a halt. Something about ladders, water, lighting and wind just don't seem like the should go together. So I thought I would consider what the beast has cost us so far. Working from memory:
$45,500 for the beast
$ 1,800 for sales tax and plates
$ 850 for insurance
$ 300 for having carpet and furniture cleaned
$ 600 for updating electrical, water, sewer and entertainment systems
$ 200 for cleaning, waxing, paint and lube supplies
$ 80 for road service (that I still have not used)
$ 500 for new mattress cover, dishes, towels and who knows what else was in the cart
$ 300 for various spare parts and part replacements
So to date I am pushing about fifty grand. Low book value on the coach is $63,000 and this is way nicer than a low book coach so I guess I am ahead of the game so far. Of course the proof of this perceived value comes when we can actually put the beast in gear and use it! Oh well, maybe next week end.
