Ready to Roll

Posted 11-13-2009 at 05:16 PM by RVrescue

The old girl is ready to roll again. Unfortunately my Dad didn't live long enough to take one last trip in her. About the time we finished the roof, he took a turn for the worse and spent October at home with hospice. He passed away on October 30. We're taking his remains to Oregon for a memorial service on the 21st and we're planning on taking the RV for the trip. Any suggestions for Siskiyou Pass and the I-5 at Grants Pass? One of my son's suggested (only half jokingly) that we set his ashes on the dashboard for one last ride. That was the most conservative suggestion. I won't even go into details on the calking comment that was made. Actually, my Dad would have enjoyed the conversation-he had a great sense of humor. I'll miss him enormously but everytime we take a trip in the old girl I'll remember all the great times my Dad and I had together. So all you younger families out there remember that all the trips you take with your children are a legacy of smiles they'll never forget.

RVrescue...My heart goes out to you and your loss. (We did hospice here at the house for "Pop" earlier this year - and I would not have passed up that time with him.)

I am going to post a thread asking for suggestions for you because this is one that should remain here in a blog. Please continue to blog - but remember the questions should be made as threads!
    Safe travels...

RV rescue, I will post here as well as on the thread. As you know Siskiyou Summit is a steep pull, due to the time of year, I would try and hit there around mid-day. There are a number of good RV parks on the route. There is a new one just north of Yreka that I have heard good things about. We have stayed in Rogue River City and in Grants Pass. When we came home from the Coast in September there was still a lot of construction going on at the first Grants Pass exit. The Seven Feathers Casino has put in an excellent RV Parkk across I-5 from the Casino and back in a canyon. Free shuttle service from your site to the casino and restaurant, fairly reasonable rates. I hope this some use for you. As I don't know if you are traveling from the North or from the South, it is hard to be specific. My condolences on your loss. Remember the good times.
