As you can see we put up a new image in the header of some winter campers enjoying Quartzite. This is just a place holder until we have our first iRV2 Header Photo Contest winner.
It's time to start a new fun feature of iRV2. We will start slow and learn from each other and hopefully build up to a new photo every month. What we are going to need is your best panoramic photos (hopefully including your RVs). You can take these with a normal camera, you just have to stand far enough away so only a small vertical slice of the photo can be used. Here is an example.
This is the original photo:
Following is an example of cropping out an area to make a panorama photo:
Here is the same photo that has been cropped and is now the header:
Minimum Requirements:
- 1260 pixels wide
- High Quality Photos
- The cropped area will be roughly 8.4 times as wide as it is high (1260 x 150 pixels)
In the future the photo contests will have different themes (winter, fall, spring, nature shot, rally shot, etc) but to get this going all entries will be accepted into the first contest.
To enter, just post your photo here and we can evaluate them to make sure they would be good candidates. We can crop the photos for you, so you can just post an original. It's not as easy as it seems to get a good shot that works unless you have a panoramic camera or walk far enough away so we can crop out a slice of a bigger shot.

Andy,
Why don't you start with the panorama rig shot (shows all the rigs surrounding the meeting pavillion) Dave put together that's on the 2009 iRV2 National Rally DVD? I believe we sent you a DVD.

Lori, thanks for reminding me of the panoramas from the 2009 National. I went through all the photos and found some others that I cropped and might work as well. Here they are:
1)
2)
3)
4)
5)
6)
Which one do you all like most?

I guess I just got lazy. I only paid attention to the 4 times as wide as high, when it seems it needs to be 8 times as wide as high. 1260 / 150 = 8.4. So that does make it a little tougher.

Lets try this one::
Original size is 7200 X 953 Closer to the 8 to 1 ratio.

Dick,
I updated the OP with the 8.4 to 1 ratio, thanks for bringing that to my attention.
Great pic of the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. I especially like heading north west after that bridge up towards Chama and on to Pagosa Springs, it's a beautiful drive.

Great pics. When you are selecting images, it may be useful to know that the right side of the image may not display for some. If you have a wide screen monitor you get the whole thing but if you have a more standard monitor about 20 percent of the right side of the pic gets chopped off.

Good point Janet. The amount of the photo that shows is based on your screen resolution. So if it's 1024 pixels wide about 960 pixels will show 74%.
Also, on the left the logo "hovers" over the image so if the sweet spot of the photo gets covered up by the logo, that's no good either.
With time I hope we build an archive of amazing member photos for each season. That way we can even rotate them and it will look great.

I have a photo that was taken January 2009 in Quartzsite. You are looking south from the LaPosa BLM. Every rig that you can see here is of an iRV2 member. It happened to be the first time that many of the members were meeting each other.
This impromptu gathering gets a bit larger each year...but we all have at least two things in common - and those are- the love of RVing and the comraderie that we find here on iRV2!
PS... Do any of you believe in sublimal advertising?!!

I am putting up a few more photos that were taken in Quartzsite a year ago this month. I believe all of these were taken at the La Posa South BLM location. Thanks, Andy - for doing the hardwork for me...
