'02 Winnie Journey DL, Small leak...

My freshwater tank winter drain leaks. A drip per second. Drips down to the ground right in the middle of the RV and my RV space is all gravel so not too comfortable working under there. The drain handle has been operated numerous times to see if something dislodges but so far no luck.

What I plan to do is just cap it off since I'm a full timer and seldom winterize. So I'm looking for information.

Does anyone know the diameter of the drain tube (looks to be around 1")? Or can suggest a method of stopping the leak?

Thanks!

Mine were 1/2" ID pex plastic pipe.

I picked up a Sharkbite cap from Lowe's, cut the pipe off at the valve and slipped it on.

I did eventually take my drain valve apart, it just has an O ring in it. But I left it capped.

The few times I drain the tank I use the U shaped tool that costs a buck.

Are you are talking about the large drain valve that opens and closes with the drain cable in the wet bay?

If so, their is a chance that the cable has stretched and is not closing the valve completely. Open the inspection plate on the water tank. You can find this access by following the cable. After opening, you will see that the cable is attached to a knife valve (a smaller valve that looks like your holding tank dump valves) then loosen the set screw that attaches the wire, pull out the handle in the wet bay about 1/4", now retighten the set screw. This allows the wire to close the knife valve completely. If you are fortunate this will solve your problem.

If not, you can buy replacement gaskets for the drain valve and install them.

Good luck.
