04 Adventurer Basement Air Problem

I'm new to this board. I have a 2004 Adventurer and was wondering if anyone with the basement air has the same problem as me. When the heat pump runs, it is noisy, but when the air conditioning is on, it's not that bad. A Winnebego owner posted a great do it yourself service guide, and I'm wondering if I should service the unit myself, or let the pros have it. I am handy and wouldn't have a problem trying to service the unit myself. Any advice or info. Thanks.

there is a GREAT post by duner ,I believe ,on how to remove the unit and service it. Do a research. IMO, it very easy to do with his info. I liked it so much I made 2 copies of it.

I have a 2004 Adventurer and I no issue witht eh heat pump, but my gas furnace is very noisy. Are you sure it is the heat pump?

I found it by searching for duner+basement AC. If you have a pet monkey he will be able to do it using this series of photos. What a great write up. My condolences to duner for the tragic loss of his wife.

Welcome RJ. It may be normal. The same components in the basement unit are used for both the heat and cool mode. The big difference is that in the heat mode, both compressors are always used, and the indoor & outdoor fan motors are always on hi. In the cool mode, they may or may not. Also, I find that there is usually more (louder) compressor harmonics in the heat mode.

If you're going to remove the A/C I suggest that you replace the outdoor blower wheel wile you have it apart. The original is metal and subject to loosening as it ages causing a "rattling" sound. the new one is plastic and MUCH quieter. It's not expensive. Also, change the bearings as outlined in Duner's post.

It would help if you give us some detail to describe the type of noise you hear that is loud. Maybe you could fine another Winnie of 02, 03 or 04 yrs and see how they sound inside and outside to compare to yours. Maybe it is "normal" and us owners don't hear (I mean, aware of) the same things as you.

Let us know what you find, even if it is months down the road.

Thanks Bill.. Another owner wrote that he thinks the "noise" is normal. The noise is that of a motor that runs the electric heat. It just sounds loud especially when you're in the bedroom as the bed is set over the basement unit. I don't think it's a bearing going out.
