04 Adventurer Coach Heater Explain

On my recent outing I discovered that the switch marked Coach Heater was switched on along with the A/C (no wonder it was getting so hot in the coach). Exactly what does this switch do? The switch has two settings (High and Low). My wife noticed this when she touched the floor vent and it was extremely hot? On my GM dash I have the classical controls for Heat and AC, and on my coach thermostat in the rear it has Heat and A/C setting but I can not find a explanation of the dash switch marked Coach Heat?

It uses engine heat through the floor ducts. Obviously you only want that when traveling in cold weather. You probably have a water heater that also uses engine heat when traveling. See if you hot water after a trip, assuming propane and electric water heat are off.

From your Owner's Manual:

The rest of the story....

It's a separate heater core, much like the one in the dash heater, that lives in the front of the floor ducting. The propane furnace is at the rear of the duct. Either can blow heat into the duct.

From the parts manual:

Be glad it works. The fans are known to seize and blow fuses, creating other issues. Many threads here at irv2 about removing and repairing it.

Here's a document someone made about doing it.

(I repaired mine without removing the water heater. Wasn't easy, but I didn't have to remove the water heater....)

I have the same system. It still works great. I replaced the floor grill with one that closes. The cab area got too hot, when traveling in cool/cold weather. It also helps to keep the fan noise lower. The system is great for heating the HOT water, while traveling. Be careful....the water gets really hot!
