I have a couple of buddies that have Meridian's and Horizons. When they are on shore power and turn off their battery disconnect, they have no 12v power and their refrigerator will not work. I have an 05 Adventurer and I have a converter, but we cannot find a converter on their coaches. Do these units have a converter, or do diesels not have converters?

Thanks

They have a dual purpose unit (inverter & converter. It is located in the electrical bay right behind the rear wheel on the road side.

When 120v is present it functions as a converter (battery charger) and puts the inverter portion in standby mode and bypasses the incoming 120V AC right to the coach. When there is no shore power or generator power in puts the converter portion (battery charger) in standby mode and enables the inverter (converts 12V to 120V). All this takes place automatically unless your tell it otherwise from the control panel inside.

I have a combined inverter/converter/charger. What you describe is exactly how mine works. If you kill the battery disconnet, there is no 12v power to the house whether connected to shore power, generator, or what.

The mystery has been solved. In the Meridian, there is a SPS combo inverter/converter. In this particular coach, the unit is a 12x20 which calls for a max of 21 input amps. On the control panel, someone had selected 25 amps for input so it was sending more than it should and is probably the culprit.

On the Horizon, it has a Xantrex control and you have to select your battery type, etc. He is going to read the manual and make the proper settings.

Thanks for your help. We were sitting at a campground, enjoying a cold one, solving all the RV problems of the group and watching football with beautiful weather. Hard to beat a day like that....
