08 Voyage Slide Locks

I'm getting a dark residue on the wall and ceilings above both living room slide locks. Any ideas?

Sounds like your slide-out lock mechanisms are leaking. We just had our ceiling replaced on one slide-out due to extensive water damage. Inside your cabinet, you have one or two black plastic covers attached to the ceiling. Remove these covers and you'll probably going to find evidence of water leaking--corroded components and musty smell.

Winnebago designed the slide-out locks with an opening in the top of the slide-out for the lock to engage. Water collects in this cavity and drains out through a small hose (about the size of a windshield wiper washer hose) to the outside of the coach through a weep hole. Small orifice gets plugged with sediment and the water backs up -- eventually entering the ceiling area.

Discussed with the Winnebago Service Center folks and their recommendation is to use pipe cleaners to keep the weep hole open. I questioned why this potential problem and corrective action wasn't included in the literature that came with the coach. I didn't get a definitive answer??

You're looking at an expensive repair if it is water damage as the complete cabinet area has to be taken down and a new ceiling installed. Fortunately, ours was under warranty. The dealer we purchased from assured us that "the problem has been fixed" and they couldn't detect any "musty oder" or damage -- BS!!

Hi Finhawk, I have a 2007 Voyage and I cannot figure out what you mean when you say "slide lock." What kind of slide mechanism does your Voyage have? My 07 has Kwikee Electric Slides.
I would like to understand what slide locks are.

They are screw locks that are in the center top of each of the living room slides. One is in a cabinet, the other inside a light fixture. They are used to lock the slide while the rig is moving

I haven't even looked at who made the slide mechs. I haven't had a problem with them so had no reason to.

I'm with you Millsrv. We have an '07 33V and there are no slide locks. I know this because in a severe cross wind in New Mexico, my slide (drivers side) banged open and shut. I now have 1" dowling cut to length and wedged between the side wall and the top of the slide just in case. I wish there were locks, but the dowling seems to work well enough.

Hi Craig H, Do you have the Kwikee Electric Slides or HWH Hyd. Slide mechanisms. I cannot understand for the life of me how the screw drive eclectic slides, (Kwikee) can possibly move on their own. They are mechanically held in place by the screw drives.
I really would like to figure this out.
