12v Timer for Hot Water Heater

I have a 2011 Vista 26P. It has a gas hot water heater. I like keeping the hot water toggle switch "off" most of the time. We only really need hot water for two showers in the morning.

I would like to be able to get up in the morning and be able to jump right in the shower.

Presently, I get up, flip the toggle switch, wait 10 mins and then get in the shower.

Can I "hardwire" a timer to turn on the hot water heater so that it comes on about a half hour before I get up.

Has anyone done such a project? Any other commnets would be sincerly appreciated also.

Lowes & Home depot carry several different AC & DC programable timers.
They should have one that works.
Let us know what happens.
