In our new coach, there ia an auxilry battery switch dowl low by the steps. When shoul this be on and or off? General rule of thumb?

We have had the rv for a few days nd plan a trip the end of next week so all sorts of questions are comin up. Fun stuff!

Advice??
Thanks,
Goebs

welcome to irv2.
if it is plugged in to shore power, leave the battery switch on. this allows the converter to charge the house battery bank. the engine start battery will not be charged from the converter. if the batteries are flooded cell, make sure there is enough water in them.

I do different. On my previous 2002 Brave, that switch disconnects the batteries from the house. When not plugged in, nothing will work with the switch off and the batteries will not charge.

When not plugged in and the switch is on, all 12V systems work.

I keep mine turned off when I'm plugged in as I don't need the batteries and some of the converters are notorious about overcharging the batteries. I do turn it on occasionally while setup just to charge the batteries. If you leave it turned on all the time, check the water in the batteries often. When traveling I have it on.

Thanks for the advice. Both posts make sense and are very helpful. I will check the batteries in the am lit to see what type I am runing.

Next step is to learn how to level the beast... Baby steps ay!
