Our neighbor here in Indio is having starting problems.
The problem has been intermittent for over a year. Several techs have looked at the problem but it always starts ok when it is in the shop. Now it fails to start.
There is a fusible link that has been removed between the solenoid and the starter. In the place of the link he has to use a jumper cable to to get it running.
Fusible link is apparently part of the Cat package. It has continuity with no apparent breaks when it is tested.
more info,,,,
There has been times in the past where the instruments fail to work.
Anyone had any issues with the link, solenoid or starter stud? Anything to help shed some light here?
Winnebago has a nice website but apparently the wiring diagrams are not available to the consumer

When you say won't start do you mean the starter does not turn over or that the engine just won't take off when spun?

I have had an ongoing problem with the starter solenoid on my 400hp Cat.
I too could not make it fail when a mechanic was around, but beating it with a hammer wehn it did fail verified the problem.

I found the delco part number was 10461769 38 mt

Seems that these were not supplied by Catapillar but by Freightliner and that is were I had to go to get the part number. Their price was in the hundreds and their lead time was weeks. I got mine by searching google for the part number.

Call Freightliner to verify you part number.
