Got home last night and had no marker or tail lights. I'm not at the rig now but when I get home I plan to check the tail lamp and the marker lamp fuses in the box located in the driver side forward bay. Also there is a relay marked "Marker lamps relay". Obviously if one of these is out it's an easy fix. What if they all seem fine? I've heard about all kinds of wierd things having to do with the smartwheel and wipers etc. etc.

Any advise?

If you find all fuses OK call Freightliner help with symptoms to see if it might be the headlamp control module located beneath the instrument panel. It controls more than the headlamps and was the cause of our failure that was similar to yours but included the brake lights.

You will likely have to order the part, but it is easily a DIY replacement. Hope it is a fuse because the module is $300+.

OUCH! My brake lights work so hopefully it's a fuse.

It probably is, but you needed to know the non-obvious. Think how happy you will be when you reset the fuse and the lights work!

I have a 2004 Journey ... I had no tail lights or rear marker lights on the back of my coach recently. I think both of these coaches are on Freightliner chassis so I would guess that the wiring on your chassis looked a lot like the wiring on my chassis when it was delivered to Forest City.

I stopped by the factory and had it fixed. The problem was a connector that was corroded and no longer worked. The connector on my Journey was inside the passenger side frame rail about a foot from the back end of the coach. I think this is the connector from the chassis to the Winnebago body for the rear marker and tail lights .

I suggest you look for this connector and clean it up if replacing the fuse doesn't fix your problem ...

The connector has been superceded by a better connector.

I think that I just noticed that plug while working on the AC duct in our '04 Vectra and thought to myself that it looked like a bad idea in a bad spot. Thanks I will be doing another crawl under to check it out.

Just another thought. Something made the fuse blow. Another place to check is inside the trailer light connector socket on the rear of your coach. I once had a couple of wires touching ground inside the connector and caused me to go nuts trying to find the problem.

Thanks everyone! We'll see next time it rains and the marker lights are needed. I also found a few other fuses that are discolored or have corrosion. Might as well nip it in the bud.

Well we went to the Hershey RV show and found we had no marker lights or tail lights or smart-wheel lights again. It WAS the 30A fuse but when replaced it lasted only 5 munutes the blew again so the hunt goes on. I'll go down the list of everything mentioned above. If anyone wants to add to the above list go ahead and throw it into the mix. Freightliner call is first on the list...... to be continued.....

The problem was with the brake light. Not sure what yet. It has been fixed according to the shop but I havn't picked it up yet. Getting other work done to get ready to go fulltime in May. I don't know for sure yet if it's actally fixed either until I try it out. I'll ask the tech then what the problem was exactly.
