Wow - did anybody notice on the 2006 Horizon 40' specs that the front axle weight has increased from 12,000 lbs to 14,320!!??

Now the GVWR is 34,320 lbs. They also dropped the 40AD and the 36GD floor plans. Winnie marketing apparently believes that to compete, four slides is necessary.

CCC was a big issue on the 36RD (only about 1200 lbs) and not that great on the pre-2006 FD and KD. Looks like Winnie has solved the CCC problem.

Well, I think they dropped the smaller floor plans because they've slotted in a new DP between the Journey/Meridian and the Vectra/Horizon. The new coach is called Winnebago Tour / Itasca Eclipse. This new DP has the 36RD floor plan.

They don't have full specs on the new coach but what they do have still leaves me concerned about CCC. They spec a #10,410 front & #19,000 rear axle for the 36ft chassis.

That still seems light to me on the front. The 40ft chassis gets a #12,000 front/#20,000 rear.

It will be interesting as people purchase them to find out what they really weigh.

The 40ft Horizon and Vectra should have CCC of around 4000 lbs now (unless they've loaded something else on to it) and that will be a huge improvement over 05 and prior. (see below - is there anywhere to store the "stuff" though?)

On April 1 they increased the rear axle capacity by 1500 lbs for the 39K Journey and Meridian - and it was sure needed as a 39K we looked at was just over 1700 lbs. We would very much like a wider living area and 3 or 4 slides and would likely have a new Winnie now if it were not for the CCC problems. Our 39W has CCC of about 3900 lbs and we like having a cushion and not having to worry about every little thing we take with us. Our dealer has only had two new Winnie DPs in inventory this year - one 39K and a Vectra 40FD. The 39K was sold after it sat for 4 months or more and the 40FD is still on the lot. So far this year this dealer has sold well in excess of 25 HR DPs - if not 50 or more. When we looked at the CCC on the HRs we found all were over 3000 lbs (but, one must be careful - HR uses 2 x 154 for passenger weight whereas Winnie uses 4 x 154 for the 40FD and 6 x 154 for the 39K). Whenever we look at these numbers we add back the sleeping position weight, deduct our own weights, add back the full tank of water, and deduct a third of a tank - this gives us a number that is useful for us (little or no dry camping). The Winnie products really have been coming up short so the extra capacity will help them compete IMO.

If the Tour weighs what the Vectra did last year, even the 12000/20,000 F/R capacity may leave not enough CCC. It appears to be the same chassis used by the Vectra but without the IFS option - but I gather wheel cut is 55 now instead of 50.

I never know whether or not to believe the Winnie brochure numbers. Outside storage for the Tour 40FD is 161 cu ft. For the Vectra 40FD it is 136 cu feet. Why the difference.

For the Tour 40KD it is 121 cu ft - but this time the Vectra KD is more - 130 cu ft. Puzzling for sure. Our 04 39W is 145 cu ft. I sure can't see buying something with less. Guess that means I have to buy an 06 Tour 40FD.

I think Winne has flipped the storage figures on the KD and FD. Look closely at the curb side slide on the 40FD. The storage bays come out with the slide as they do on the road side because it is a flat floor slide. Hence no open basement storage. Which to me would mean less square footage.

For the record our 04 Horizon NCC is 4308lbs.

Cheers
