Hi All - havent posted in a while - no news is good news, but I have been watching the threads. So, we are camping right now in our Journey directly on the beach in East/Central Florida (just an hour from home). This is the first time in 2 months we are using our rig, and our electric step is broken - wont come out. I checked switches, fuses/breakers, etc. all is good.

We noticed a few months ago that the electric motor was sounding REALLY sick when the step came in and out - getting weaker and weaker. Now, just nothing.

Has anyone else has this problem? I would imagine its a burned engine on the step? Is this something a non-mechanical guy can fix or should we have a shop fix this?

Right now we have resorted to a Rubbermaid step stool from Wal-Mart. A little embarrasing and our neighbors were looking at it yesterday and we told them the unfortunate story of our step.

Thanks for any help and advise!!

Have you tried giving it a helpful jerk while it should be extending? Unfortunately, those steps do require regular lubrication or they will just freeze up.

About 6 years ago (on my '99 Adventurer with Kwikee steps) I was parked in California during the rainy season ... I noticed that my steps were working slower and slower ...

I had not been lubricating them on a regular basis.

I discovered that lubrication of all the joints on the steps, and the step arms, and the extension mechanism near the electric motor needed to be lubricated.

I bought a spray can of WD-40 and sprayed into every place that I thought looked like it should move ...

Then I had my spouse slowly open and close the door while I pulled and pushed on the steps ... after a few repititions they were working again ...

After that I used Lithium Spray Grease on a regular basis on my steps until I attended GNR and learned about KWIKEE Spray Lube which I have been using since then.

P.S. Do you know that there is pin that you can remove so that your stairs will come down for use
