Smile 2014 Vista 30-T Trip Report

We just returned from a 6-week, 6,000 mile, 16-state cross country trip in our new 2014 Vista 30-T. This is our 5th motorhome and our first gasser, but we were pleasantly surprised at how well it performed and handled, including routes that took us through lots of mountains and over 11,000 foot Loveland pass on I-70 in Colorado. While towing our CRV, we averaged 7.12 MPG for the entire 6,000 mile trip. We had no mechanical issues, but did return home with a punch list for the dealer to look at. We love this floor plan and for two people, it has been ideal. The 31 foot length allowed us to easily maneuver in and out of tight gas stations and RV parks with ease. I thought the Ford transmission downshifted too quickly and is not as smooth as the Allison we were used to in our previous DPs. Couldn't use cruise control, except on the flattest of roads, as the transmission would quickly and abruptly downshift to 2nd gear, revving the engine to 4500 rpm. The single AC/heat pump is marginal in hot weather and barely kept the inside temp at outside minus 10. The new Schwintek slides are the best we ever had and operated smoothly and flawlessly every time. We had the Roadmaster Invisibrake and it worked very well and made it a snap to hookup. So, overall, we are very pleased with this coach and Winnebago has delivered a very nice product!

Great to hear that you had a great trip. The 30T is great for 2 people and we love ours too.
As for the shifting, there many, many posts here about that. You might want to lookup and read ones pertaining to "5 Star Tune" in the Ford section of this site. It is enlightening.

It is a great floor plan for the size. Enjoyed ours but decided to trade for 35 G as we are parking longer.

We just purchased a 31KE and really enjoy it too. Similar issues with the downshifting. Seriously considering the 5 Star Tune.

I agree and second that. The 5 Star Tune is a must for the Ford F53 chassis. It solves the shifting both up and down and the high-reving problems. Plus I think it improves power a bit.
