32T vs32TD

Trying to get some information, is there any difference in tow capacity between an older journey 32t and 32TD ? Someone told me the 32TD is rated a lot higher. Looking to get something with a higher capacity than our gasser thatís still in my budget and size limit
Thanks

czike-

The "D" usually indicates the Allison 3000MH transmission on the Journey/Meridian models. The 3000MH is beefier than the 2500MH, so it should be able to tow more when the chassis allows.

Not only is there a "TD," but some models are a "DL," the "D" meaning the same thing.

Go to Winnebago's Product Information Web site (link here) to download the brochure for any model/year of interest.

Note: Every now and then someone bought a "standard" model with the optional 3000MH transmission as an upgrade. It would not be marked on the outside as a "D." I have seen a couple of those for sale. It would usually have the same specs as a "D."

Of course, you need to confirm the chassis/engine/transmission combo on any coach offered for sale. Brochures, ads and owners can be incorrect.

One final note: The brochure specs (and operator's manual) may indicate a 500-pound vertical (tongue) weight limit, even with a hitch rated 10,000 pounds (horizontal), and a GCWR-GVWR of 10,000 pounds. A 500-pound vertical weight limit implies a maximum trailer weight of 5,000 pounds or less, even though the chassis and transmission might be rated for more than that.

czike, looks like the standard Journey had a 2000MH 5 speed and the D models had the 3000MH 6 speed.
