On the Journey/Meridians in the 2004 age can the v-belt and thermostat be replaced on the 7.5 Onan without removing the generator from the coach? Especially since the gen is not mounted on a slide where it can be slid out the front of the coach.

The manual says these should only be attempted by a qualified technician, are they really that hard to do?

Has anyone do it themselves, and if so at what age and hours was the gen when you did it. Mine is a 2004 with 320 hours on it but the manual says to do it at 5 years.

allen, you will be very hard pressed to remove the sound shield from the gen to be able to access the v-belt with the gen mounted in the coach. My gen is on a slide "tray" and I really don't think I can get the shield off without pulling the gen off the tray.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. Another one of those simple one hour projects that takes all day, with the compliments of our good manufacturers. So many of our maintenance items could have been made so easy with just a little consideration from the design engineers, who have probably never been in an RV.

If you are fortunate enough to have a generator slide (as I do) it's a pretty easy task once the generator is slid forward. The top and rear panels need to come off to replace the belt--I can't remember whether the thermostat is accessible with only the top panel removed.

My gen is on a front slide "tray". the t'stat is accessible from the top however I have not been able to remove the rear panel to access the belt. I can get it loose but can't get it out from the space created when the gen is slid forward. What's your secret?

I don't actually know of any secret. I watched while it was done by the Cummins service guy from underneath/behind the extended generator and it seemed straight forward. I don't remember any special contortions.
