A 1" square item mounted on Roof?

I have a 2005 Journey 36G in the process of upgrading the the Satilite Dish from Wingard 2003 Model to the Travelers 3005. Where the sat. wires go through the roof there is a small black wire attached to a 1" square box about 1/2" high mounted on the roof which is about 3' behind the old Sat dish off on the pass. side. Can anyone tell me what this is? Thank you for any help.

I believe that's a GPS antenna to help your old dish locate the satellites. Remove it along with the old dish. You'll never be sorry you upgraded to the Trav'ler.

Without a photo it is hard to say.. I can think of several possible answers.. The other reply being one of them.

I had one on my roof also. It is a GPS antenna to assist the sat dish locate the signal. I believe TurtleKent is correct. I replaced mine with a Traveler and I love it.

It could also be the antenna for a satellite radio receiver (XM or Sirrus radio) if you have one. If you are replacing an old Wineguard AS-2003 satellite dish, it may be part of the dish as noted above.
