A/C condensor cooling fans

Ok...I've got cool air coming out of the dash a/c now, but the condensor cooling fans still don't come on.

I can't find a relay that says 'condensor cooling fan', I can't find any fuses marked like the relay either, and I've jumpered both pressure sensors with no joy. There are a couple of circuit breakers and a relay that say 'cooling fans', but they appear to be ok.

One item I would like to have some help with (ok 2 items, if you know where a fuse/relay might be) is the fans themselves. I haven't checked for power at the fans, but I did try to move them. They were almost locked up.

These are the electric fans on the front of the side mounted radiator. Would one of you who have these fans on your coach, check and see if they normally spin freely? or are they difficult to turn.

The electric fans on my side mounted evaporater or condenser, spin freely as if mounted with ball bearings.

Some of the coaches will have a separate il-line fuse to protect the fans. From the fans, trace the wires back to the point that you have a fues or a relay. There has to be a relay to turn the fans on when the A/C comes on.

Sammie, you schnauzer is cute. Is he a black and silver or just a dark salt and pepper?

TXiceman, that picture was when she was a pup. We usually travel with two Schnauzers, one in our friends motorhome and one in ours. Ours is Salt & Pepper.

WE have a 14 year old male, black and silver and a 4 year old female that is officially salt and pepper, but very lite on the pepper.

They rule the house as well as the RV.

If the fans are "locked up" the magnets inside the housing have become dislodge and locked onto the armature, you'll also probably find a blownb 25 amp fuse. I've replaced mine on a '99 around 2001, repaired them again in 2004 & again in 2006. I used Crazy glue the first time second time a 5 min Epoxey So far they are holding up. Next time I'm looking for a different fan manufacturer.

Well, thanks to this thread of discussion, I went out and tried spinning my two fans on the dash air condenser. One spins freely, and one does not. Is this a Winnebago part, or a Freightliner part? Where does everyone get replacements?

Mine on the '99 Winnebago Adventurer 34VP were a Winnebago part about $100 ea. I think they're all 14" fans, since you have one working see if it's pulling air thru the condenser coil or pushing so if replace it you can change direction by reversing the wires. On mine the fuses were reversed between the Heated Mirrors (10 amp fuse) & the A/C which was 25 amp so I don't think mine ever worked until I started looking why the fans never turned on.

No blown 25a fuse....no blown fuse of any kind. Cooling fan relays all good. Getting into the wiring tomorrow.

What a PITA.

Anyone know how to get the grill panel off from in front of the radiator?

Today was the end of a great saga. The condenser cooling fans have been replaced.

At the fans, unplug connectors and find both corroded. Clean corrosion off, get 12v. Remove 9 screws and grill assembly lifts up on hinge. Try getting fans to move..no joy. Take out 4 screws, fan assembly comes off condenser.

Go to auto parts store and they have 2 in stock (that was a miracle). Take back to coach and plug in to connector. Fan spins. Life is good.

Mount fans in bracket. Installed bracket. Installed screws in grill assembly. Sat down and had beer.

Now I'm off to clean the inside windows.

Just curious...what was the cost of the fans? One of mine spins freely but one is hard to turn so I think it might need replacement.

The fans were $68 each from Auto Zone. 12" fans that were a direct replacement for the ones on the condenser.

I found exact replacement fan motors at Advance Auto parts. $60, on the shelf. Choose the 10" fan assembly, then remove the fan motor and replace the bad motor on the 11" mount on the coach, you also have to switch the fan blade. The fan motors are identical with my 2005 Meridian, right down to the black and blue wiring.
