Our 2004 Itasca Horizon 40AD came without a couch, because the first owner opted to have 2 easychairs instead and did not have a couch to begin with (then took 1 out and left me with 1 easy chair only!)
So, my slide has a big gaping space next to my 1 easy chair and ottoman... and I would love to put in a couch. A leather couch that turns into a sofabed, preferably a comfortable one to sleep in.
ive been surfing around and cant seem to find what the original model of sofabed / couch was that came with this. I'm also looking into normal couches and not just RV-specific couches. is this a no-no? is the weight that different or much heavier than an RV -specific couch?
Also, the photos i've seen has this thin mattress that folds out, it looks like it has springs and is uncomfortable. Some jacknife type couches also look very uncomfortable to sleep on. I want my guests to come back and visit us, not have bruised backs. The sleeper sofa that has an electric button and goes all the way flat, by flexsteel, it looks nice as a couch, but horrible as a bed. if you put a mattress topper on this, will it be comfy?

We will be using it as a couch to lounge in about 80% of the time, and 20% of the time have guests who sleep over.

Our previous rig was a 5th wheel and it had a sofa that folded out and an airbed popped out which was pretty nice but it wasnt leather.

My suggestion is to by a couch that is made for an RV.............Most of them are designed to be partially disassembled to be able to fit through the 'rv doorway and additionally have provisions to anchor them to the floor

oh great, i just saw a nice flexsteel easybed for $750 from RVSurplus in Elkhart, IN. it looks brand new too. i dont know if this is a fake "ultra leather" or not, but it looks good. I just dont know if its sleepable in bed mode.
Also, my slide doesnt have any anchor thinggies. does it need to be bolted down? in our old 5th wheel, the couch was just sitting on the slide, not bolted to anywhere.

You can get a regular sofa sleeper from any furniture store as long as it fits through the RV door and fits in the space between the slide end wall and your recliner. We have the same floorplan in our 2004 Vectra 40AD and our has the original double recliner/sofa bed that my son has slept on. He was fine with it but it does not look comfortable to me. As a sofa/double recliner it is fine and has a footrest but we may replace it with a regular sofa sleeper if we find one that fits. Remember the RV door! Some house sofa sleepers have removable backs. I use to deliver furniture and I delivered some with this. Those would be easy to fit in but may be too long to fit in the slide. Good luck in your hunt.

We removed the so called "rest easy" sofa bed and replaced it with a Lazy Boy dual recliner sofa. The backs remove easily on Lazy boy furniture and thus it was easy to get thru the door. Weight is about half of the original. No-one that slept on our rest easy claimed to have had an "easy rest". We provide an air mattress for our temporary company.

Ditto on the LazyBoy. We just installed new Theatre Seats in the Voyage. Electric recliners, really comfortable. don't know about sleeping for any long period of time but great for short naps. The store people took the backs off both recliners and it came thru the door with no problem. Since this picture was taken, we got rid of the Euro-Chair, centered the seat in the slide and put a small cabinet on each end-----from LazyBoy too
