AC Doesn't Shut Down

here is a weird problem,,,,,,our AC compressor does not shut down after reaching set temp. The only way I can get the AC system to stop running is to turn the circuit breaker off. Acutally it sounds like the AC compresser is shuting down but maybe the heat pump is running.

Your system will run on for a while after the compressor shuts off. It's possible the temperature is climbing enough to kick the compressor back on instead of shutting down.
Happy Glamping.

AC compressor and the heat pump is one in the same. it's called a heat pump system. It's just like every AC system except it has an added reversing valve which reverses the gas flow. The condenser becomes the evaporator and the evaporator becomes the condenser. In cool mode, the hot air is expelled outside and the cold air inside. In heat mode, the hot air is expelled inside and the cold air is expelled inside. When in heat mode the unit won't make heat when the outside air is below about 35 degrees. Check your t-stat and be sure you have the fan in AUTO. It will go off with the compressor. If you are parked someplace with 100-degree heat outside it probably won't sute off.

If all that checks out okay, check inside the a/c J-Box. One of the contactors may have over heated and be stuck in the on position.

Just fixed the same issue

Ironically, I had this exact problem on the exact same day as you in our 2017 Itasca Sunstar 29VE. The blower would shut off but I could still hear the compressor running even after the set temperature had been reached. I climbed on the roof and didn't see any icing up on the compressor. So the problem was not outside on the roof, it was inside the coach in the overhead blower. I shut off the power to the AC, removed the air conditioner blower cover inside the RV on the ceiling, and saw the aluminum electrical box inside with all the wires. I was going to remove it, but decided to just tap on the outside of the box with the butt end of my screwdriver. This must've jarred the 12v-to-110v relay and the system started working normally again! Had this not worked, I would've had to replace the relay. Thinking about buying one just in case this happens again.

Thanks,,,, so you guys are saying the control relay for the compressor is located in a J box that is accessible from inside the coach.

If your AC temp controls are at the wall thermostat only, you would access the J-box from the roof. If they are at the unit you may be able to access it from inside.

The Coleman-Mach unit installs through a hole in the roof of the RV. So you can access parts of it from outside and some from the inside. If you just pull the two filters from the inside ceiling unit, you will see the electrical box. I just tapped on that box and it fixed mine.

I belive I have found the problem. After removing the J box assembly for inspection 1. I found a wire disconnected, pretty sure it was to the frezze sensor. (didnt fix the problem). 2. When I checked the Compressor Power Relay "Normaly Open" it is allways closed. I suspect that after the frezze sensor came loose it burnt up the power relay from being on continous. We will see. Winnebago wants $154.00 plus shipping cost of $55.00, plus special handling fee of $30.00. Amazon charged me $152.00 total and I will have it in two days. Got to Love that Amazon

Just a update if anyone is following this thread. I received the new J box assembly (relay control box) yesterday as expected, removed and replaced, and now my AC unit is working as it should.

Thanks for the comments

You can buy the 6799B349 Zettler contactors cheep on line. I replaced all of them in my bad j-box to have a spare on hand.
