I cannot get our basement AC going. This morning it wouldn't start, the fan worked and breakers and thermostat fuse are OK. I fiddled with the switch and it eventually went on and worked during our 6 hour drive.

When we reached our destination and while I was hooking up my wife switched off the air as we prepared to stop the generator. When I plugged in we couldn't get the AC to go on no matter how many times I switched it on or off. The fan will work.

Any ideas?

Nick

The most common problem with these units, as well as AC units in general, seems to be the start/run capacitors. That's the next thing that I would check.

Turn the AC off and then slide the 4 position switch rapidly between the 4 positions several times. Then turn the AC breakers back on and hope it will work until you can replace the thermostat.

shoot contact cleaner into the slide switch and proceed as kix says. i had problems with the propane heater as well as the ac.
this worked for me for a while. i eventually replaced the thermostat assembly.
