Anyone out there using Optima or similar AGM batteries in their Sightseers. I have toyed with the idea of using them as I have previously. Now, suddenly, the dealer is saying can not use this type of battery with the Parallax charger/converter or in the placement of the batteries under the steps.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks Richard

Your dealer is right. AGM batteries have different charging requirements than wet-cell batteries. If you install AGM batteries, you will need to upgrade to a converter/charger that can be set for AGM batteries.

The original owner of our coach had the factory batteries replaced with Optima upon delivery in Jan 2004. 1 chassis & 2 coach. They are located under the steps, and we have original converter.

No problems with batteries to date. Haven't even wiped them off, absolutely no corrosion.

But don't expect performance for dry camping. Only 110 amp hours on the 2 coach. It takes a lot of generator time to refill with the convertor.

They work great for the overnite at Flyng J, Casino etc, if you don't have to use propane heater. They run our entertainment center fine.

We have dry camped for periods of 5 to 7 days, but I use the gen a lot. I haven't invested in solar or small gen yet. Still working on that.
