I replaced the air filter on my Journey today and documented the process with step by step pictures. I posted it on my blog, which you can find here:

Looking at the photo of the rock guard I would suggest you safety the clevis pins with wire or zip ties to keep them from unthreading. We had one drop off on one side on I-95. Unpleasant delay.

Mr. Nichols, don't forget that the air filter is a timed replacement as well. If it has not been changed an 07 should be due even if only driven 9K miles. They evidently break down over time according to Mike at Camp Freightliner.

I have a lot of trucks and heavy equipment, and have never heard that one before. Sounds like a good salesman to me??

Looking at the old filter, it was completly intact with no sign of the element coming apart. My indicator did not show that it was due for replacement, but it was close to the red change mark. I forgot to mention that the filter had 36K miles on it.

I wonder if the filter indicator shows the filter should be changed and the owner kept running the RV without changing the filter, maybe that could cause the element to break down. I'm sure Mike at FL wouldn't say what he said if it never happens, he surely sees way more failures of components than I have, so I don't doubt him.

Anyhow, the indicator is all the way down now and I'm happy that the filter change was done, I'm big on preventive maintenance.

When I changed the air filter on mine it did not look bad. It was gray and dusty inside but who knows if it was starting to break down. Kind of like cheap insurance to replace it before it breaks down especially when getting ready for a long trip. Those fibers if breaking down presumably would reduce the air flow in the charge air cooler and who knows what else.

Your right about the cheap insurance. I'm not sure what the recommended change intervals are, but I change ours around 10k miles, more if on gravel roads a lot

Wasn't able to find any thing on the filter installation or pictures on the blog, am I missing or doing something wrong? Enjoyed reading the blog but nothing about the air filter. I changed my air filter a couple years ago and it was a nightmare with 2 of us under the back of the coach wrestling that thing off and the new one on again. If i never have to replace mine again it'll be too soon.

Dumn question. The new air filter is the whole metal canister correct? Not just a filter that fits inside the canister?

I was just under my C7 looking at that filter and saying, this is going to be a major PIA. But you made it look easy.

Thanks for the kind words, it was much easier than I thought and that is why I documented it with pictures. Sorry about the link screw up.

The entire cannister is replaced, the filter element inside is not removable.
