And so it begins.... ughhh

On our maiden voyage of our 2016 sightseer 33C... the unit only had 4000 miles and 17 hours of gen run time... the previous owners were first timers and only used it 3 times... So, drove to Idaho from Ca to go and see it and pic it up if it was all they said it was. For the most part things were ok... They had the unit in for de-winterizing and they opted for a full inspection to give us a piece of mind which was nice.... That’s where the fun ends..

Let’s see, while drive the sun shade falls on my wires head for starters.

-sliding table [moderator edit]
-must have a water leak, pump chips every minute or two
-self leveling unit threw a fit a few times, had to reset it. Used the manual leveling mode.

-but the biggest is the front passenger slide is exhibiting major issues!.. after about two good extensions and retractions the third time during the extension it almost ripped out the top of the molding!!... the slide drops when opening. When retracting the slide started making major clunking noise and the control faults began flashing....

Hope this can be resolved...

Any input or advise would be great!!... hope this isn’t the start of the norm.

Have 5 hours left before we make it home, wish is luck!!

I would guess the slide mechanism is loose or broken, I would keep it retracted until I reached my destination. If you have never worked on a slide mechanism, I suggest leaving it to an expert, of which, there aren't many around IMO.
I was told by the general manager of the Dutchmen factory repair center, most dealership technicians do not work on slide mechanisms often enough to become, and remain proficient.
Since Winnebago closed their OR facility, I have no suggestions for slide mechanism service.

Never any fun when it starts out like that. Good luck with the rest of the trip and hope you are able to get it fixed when you get home.

The water pump may just need adjustment. It likely is the type with bypass mode and if that is a bit off you can have it cycle on and off without a leak. The passenger front slide normally drops when extending. I complained about ours and was told that is normal.

The rest of your slide problems do not sound normal, maybe the lock mechanism is sticking? We no longer use the lock on ours per the advice of a Winnie factory tech. The clunking slide sounds like major problems, DO NOT LET ANYONE EXCEPT WINNEBAGO FACTORY FIX YOUR SLIDE!! (Don’t ask me how I know this, three different dealers, three faulty slide repairs). The dealers do not do enough slide repairs to know what they are doing. The factory has slide out specialists that do these repairs all day. That tells you how common the repairs on slides are needed, right?

The Lippert jack system gives lots of problems. I never use the auto level anymore, better to do it manually, just do it like the book describes. Often when you start the engine the jacks will indicate down when they are really up. Just sigh, don’t panic, and do the retract sequence again, it is the nature of the beast. Good luck,

Update: found the source of the water leak... looks like the main sink faucet is faulty. It’s leaking from one of the copper lines up inside the faucet body. Need to pull that and see if the sweated joint is leaking. Curious if it’s covered under warranty. Speaking of which, since the unit was purchased “new” in 2017 but is a 2016 model does the factory warranty begin from date of purchase?

The factory warranty should start on the date of the original purchase. So should all the components Warranties which are usually longer than the factory’s warranty.

not that many issues for a rig that has been sitting for 3-4 years. The money you saved buying used should more than cover the repairs.

Yes, factory slide repair is the best- my experience at least, first repair was at a rv repair place.

Things to look for in the near future will be:

batteries

tire rot
oil change

good luck with your new rig

as far as factory warranty it's 1 year, some items are covered longer a bit longer by supplier warranty.

Update 2:
Called Winnebago, they told me there was no factory warranty left and even it there was it’s only good for the original buyer and not transferable... that goes for the 10yr roof as well...

You need to weigh out the cost and coverage but, this is why I purchased an extended warranty from Good Sam. It did have a $500 deductible on each item. I was especially concerned about the slideouts. I only purchased it for two years.
I have had minor repairs paid for out of my pocket, but I did have to replace the bedroom AC this year and it was covered. I bought a 2016 (see my signature) with 4600 miles in 2017.

Not meaning to hijack the thread...

Lakejumper , I see you have the Koni FSD shocks. I have a 2017 30T and wondered whether you think the Koni was a good "investment" and improved the ride.

I believe they are still performing repairs there. You should call an find out. I had our slide fixed there earlier this year- and yes, they did a great job!

Hi Lakejumper, as it turns out the PO had purchased a Good Sam ESP for 5 years with $100 deductible. Working on getting that transferred as we speak.

Have you had any issues with Good Sam paying out for any claims? I've read some pretty negative comments. Hopefully there are more folks happy than not.
