Annual Undercarriage Rust Inspection

I completed my annual rust inspection and rust treatment exercise this morning. The number of areas needing treatment have become fewer and fewer over the years, the program is working. However, I found two areas to treat that were not evident in previous checks. The perimeter metal work under the entry steps showed corrosion for the first time and required wire brush work and rust converter spray. The bottom side of the left front storage compartment was the other area requiring treatment.

If you have not had rust problems in these areas before, you might check them next time you go underneath and check your rig.

Nice job FleetMan. I also do an annual rust inspection. I stay ahead of the issues and the coach stays pristeen.

One item for the CAT C7 owners, the oil pan seems to rust. I re-did mine a couple years ago, and it's due for another rust treatment. Don't know why just the oil pan gets affected, as the rest of the coach is still clean.

Don,
Thanks for the good words. Your oil pan problem is similar to that of many Ford P/U owners with the IHC 7.3 diesel. One production run of oil pans was prone to rust problems either because of the metal used in the pans or the anti-corrosion treatment used. POR-15 is the rust treatment product they seemed to have the best results with.
