Backsplash - How do you keep your review camera clean?

Just wanted to know what anyone has done to minimize backsplash while driving in the rain. Normally, we travel when the weather is nice and sunny. Occassionally, it rains when we are on the road and the backsplash makes the rear view camera dirty and less effective.

Yup - it's a problem for us as well. One of my "back burner" projects is to experiment with an aquarium air compressor and route some air tubing to the cam face. When it's raining, you plug in the compressor and air blows continuously on the cam keeping it clean.

That's the theory, anyway

BTW - you might get more attention to your post if you change the subject to something with camera in it. I thought this message was about a sink back splash.

This is a good question. Unfortunately I have never found a good answer to it. I have tried air foils, covers shaped like cans, rain-X, but have never found a good system for keeping rain/dirt off the camera lens. Sure I can keep the rain off, but my answer severely restricted the field of vision on the camera. The best I have been able to come up with is a little dobber on the end of my awning rod to clean the lens when I stop. Not of any help on the road.

Sofar this has worked...
My husband got a piece of stick on open wiring shield. It looks like a white hose with a slit in it. He cut it to lenght to fit right over the monitor and stuck it on. When it rains the rain is diverted to the sides and whatever rain comes over the top gets into the open slit and also goes to the side. It does a good job of keeping the rain from the lens.
Simple, inexpensive and it works. It has been on 2 years.
It does not divert road dirt. that is yet another matter.

I can't quite picture your 'hose' setup.

I am having a little problem with the description also, but sounds like a good idea. Is this the same type of wire shielding that comes in coils and has one side slit? Normally has a ribbed surface.

The product is:

"WIREMOLD"
"Channel Conduit Canal"

I think we got it at Radio Shack

It comes with a self adhesive back and is intended for glueing to a wall or baseboard to hold and protect wiring.
It is about 1/2 inch diameter with a slit in the side to slip the wire into. When cut to the width of the camera window and glued on top of it, the conduit acts as a rain gutter, deflecting the rain to both sides.

When one of my kids isn't good I lash him to the ladder with a rag and he has to wipe off the rear view camera as we go. Unfortunately they see to be really good kids in the motorhome..

Adventurous: Thanks for the detailed description. I have some of this channel and will give it a try. What I thought you were talking about and what you really meant were miles apart.
