BAD CONVERTER 2nd in 8 months

Well, went out today to look inside the RV and discovered the EMS panel blinking again. flashing 70 and zero Checked the converter magnatek 7455 for ac voltage and got a .5 reading on 200v ac. So I am guessing it is bad again. DC works fine.

If your unit's warranty will not cover another replacement,(personnally I wouldn't bother) several of us have gone to the Progressive Dynamics unit which comes with the built in Charge Wizard. I am going to try to see if parralax will send me a different model..the new 4400.. if it will work..But most likely I will get the replacement warranty 7455 then sell it or hold as a spare and get the 9260. Thanks for the help.

We have had two Parallax converters go bad as well (one in our Suncruiser and one in our current Journey) and both were replaced under warranty. In our Journey we replaced the new Parallax with a Xantrex 40+ Charger/Converter and it has worked great. We paid about $400 and CW is lowering the price every month it seems and it is currently available for $259 plus install - Link to Truecharge at CW.

the 7455 has two ports for the wires. These other ones have four...is this a simple install? just leave two ports blank and just use two or do you need to run additional wires?

I also replaced the OEM coverter/charger with a Xantrex 40+ Charger/Converter. Swapped to Lifeline AGM batteries and needed a charger that was capable of AGM charging protocol. As a bonus, the Xantrex will charge up to 4 seperate battery banks, and you can add an optional battery temp sensor that the Xantrex uses to adjust charging rates at various temperatures. Also added optional remote panel that lets me see what the battery charge condition is for two banks. Happy so far.

Just curious....did you check your house battery water level at least monthly while using 7455?

Peter, dont waste your time replacing these Parallax/Magnatek converters. Do yourself a BIG favor and install a Progressive Industries 9245 (45 amp) or 9260 (60amp) with a built in 3 stage charge wizard. You can leave your motorhome plugged in all the time because of the wizard as it will monitor and desulfate your batteries automatically. Replacement is as easy as unplug and plug.

Read the post. Good info. No mention that you serviced house batteries at least monthly...or were they "maintenance free" batteries?

Just curious...wonder why "refurbished"

I have the auto fill and check my batteries monthly. Never had any problems charging...the converter justs messes up the ems panel with the ac noise.

assumption is you own a hydrometer and check house batt cells regularly too?

meter reads all batteries are good 1300..
