The A/C was making a lot of noise but was still cooling, got quiet and stopped cooling. Air coming out of bedroom vents was over 70, Next day about the same outside temps, was making noise and air from vents was 48. Got cool outside, low 50's ran heat pump, unit was making noise again. It almost sounds like the diesel is running, but not as loud. Most of the time after running AC for 4 or more hours it stops cooling, any ideas, am planning on taking it in to be checked. Thanks

One day I was trying to cool the unit, outside temps about 80, cooled fine for awhile, than started getting noisy and air coming from vents was same as outside about 80. Next day about same temps 80 air coming from vents was about 48 degrees, cooled for awhile, maybe 4 hours, got noisy and started blowing warmer air, mid 60's. next day got cooler and the next morning used heat pump and basement unit was making same noise. It really sounds like a small diesel is running.

Billy, the reason I asked what the outside temp was, is I had the same problem, and you can see my problem AND solution HERE
