Start cap for compressor #2 failed on ours last year. Actually it was the PTCR attached to top of run cap. It didn't trip the breaker but I could hear compressor #2 trying to come up to speed and dropping back. Turned off the breaker for that compressor and ran on #1 only. When we returned home I replaced both caps with Supco SPP6 hard starts. $22.08 from Amazon. Both compressors start and run smoothly now.

I have never seen these before very interesting product.

I am curious if the capacitor is even still needed?

They are capacitors. They take the place of the OE capacitors as they give more starting torque over the OE ones.

The reason for my question is the link to the video show you connecting them to an existing capacitor that was the reason for the question.

The Supco Spp6 is a start cap and is connected to the run cap, which you still need. The start cap gives the compressor motor an extra kick of current to get it going then drops out of the circuit.
