Basement air blower

The outdoor blower on my Itasca basement airconditioner (Model #6535-671) quit. Checked Outdoor Blower capacitor (P/N 1499-5631) and it checked bad. Parts guy at RV Parts store said that had been replaced by P/N 1499-567. Only problem is that, other than the larger physical size, the replacement is a 30 MFD capacitor, whereas the one removed is a 12.5 MFD rating. My understanding is that the replacement should not be more than 20% larger rating than the removed one. I purchased the replacement, but am reluctant to install it until I get some confirmation that the larger rating is compatible.

Before I call AirXcel on Monday, does anyone have recent experience that can shed light on this issue? I would surely like to install the capacitor this weekend.

A member posted replacement capacitors for basement units he bought from Amazon some time ago.

Yes, am aware of Amazon as well as other sources, however expected delivery is toward end of week, and I hate to leave the A/C unit sit outside (connected electrically) for several days waiting on a part. The only capacitor available on a Saturday was from the RV parts store. Have decided to not use the higher rated capacitor.

Totally agree with your 20 percent number. When I had my HVAC business, if I had to install one at that +20 percent value I would make a free call back at my earliest convenience and install the correct cap. Just sayin'

You could, in all likelihood, pick one up at Grainger Monday morning cuz 12.5 MFD is a very common size. I see there are 3 stores in Phoenix ........ didn't see the phone numbers though. Good luck with the hunt.

Thanks, Ed. Talked with Grainger yesterday, they have a 12. Mfd capacitor. Will also check with local HVAC dealers (they're closer).
