battery charge solar question

Hi all, new to the forum but have been viewing for awhile. I have been reading that the charger in my winnebago adventurer needs to be upgraded to a 3 stage charger so my batteries will last longer. I was planning on buying this upgrade tommorow. My question is I am planning on upgrading to solar in the future and ive read I will need a charge controller to regulate the charge into the batteries, will this device bypass the new battery charger or are they 2 independant units. Meaning the solar charges the batteries and when connected to shore power the other unit kicks in? This is where im confused, any help would be appreciated.

Yes, they are independent units, as is the engine alternator. If you are going down the road, on a sunny day, with the generator running, you would have 12v power available for loads and battery charging from the alternator, battery charger, and solar.
