I have a 2002 35U and replaced the group 27s with the group 31. They could not be installed directly down into the battery tray. I had removed the 3 hold down studs to clean and repaint the battery tray. I had to lower the battery's in perpendicular to below the step and then rotate to set in place. Then installed the 1st hold down stud. Lower the second battery the same way, and then the next hold down stud. Finally installed the engine battery (group 78 as was the original equipment). Installed the last hold down stud and the hold down brackets. I replaced the engine battery in 2013 When I purchased the HH, and has work fine, and still does. I used a Delco group for the engine battery.

Hi Glenn, I didn't use AGM batteries, just the old fashion lead flooded type. I don't spend much time dry camping, so when I do, if I have to run the generator more often so be it. I don't worry about the few extra dollars it cost to run the generator. The amount of fuel these motor homes use, the little the generator uses is like a drop in the bucket.
When I do dry camp, it is usually late Oct in northern Michigan, so the nights can get quite cold. The two regular batteries do quite well to keep the furnace running all night. In the morning its time to fire up the coffee pot and the toaster. So recharge the batteries and enjoy the coffee.
