Anyone have any luck getting replacement compartment door gas struts at the local auto parts store or are these things unique to RV use?

Nothing special about ones on an RV. Get the mfg. name and numbers of the old struts, call auto parts or go online. That will save some legwork, not all parts stores have every size on the shelf.

For my 03 Horizon I was able to find the manufacturer of those struts on line and they sold to the public. Look for the manufacturer name on the strut. Or, just call Lichstinn RV in Forest City with the Winnebago part number and you will have what you need in two days. One phone call, no driving around.
